Oriental students leave for Dharamshalla trekking

JAMMU, June 10: The fourth batch of Tawi Trekkers J&K, comprising of 43 students, including 10 girls of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, today left for Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh to take part in ongoing Dharamshalla Himalayan Trekking Programme.
Supervised by veteran mountaineer of the Club, Narinder Singh, the group was flagged off by the Administrator of Oriental Academy, Vivek Chauhan from MA Stadium, here.
These young trekkers, whose average age was about 13 years, also accompanied by Vice Principal of the School, Sharuti Chauhan and three others teachers, Arvinder Kour, Bhumesh and Jyoti Mahajan. Meanwhile, the first two groups comprising of students of St. Xavier Convent Higher Secondary School, Barnai, Jammu and Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal returned after a memorable experience of trekking in the dense jungle, the thrill in doing various kinds of Rock climbing like Jummaring and rappelling and the excitement of crossing cold water Nallah.
The aim of the Himalayan Trekking Programme which Tawi Trekkers has been organizing during summer vacations for the last about 25 years was to take the students away from the scorching heat and dust, hustle and bustle and monotony of city life and to bring them closer to nature thereby imbibing in them a deep sense of love for adventure and Himalaya.
The next batch of Dharamshalla trekking programme comprising students of Shiksha Niketan Jeevan Nagar, Jammu shall leave tomorrow.


Air India wins Invitation Football Cup

SRINAGAR, June 10: Air India today lifted the Kashmir Invitation Football Cup, organised by J&K State Sports Council in support with J&K Football Association (JKFA) at Polo Ground, here today.
In the final, played today, Air India defeated Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Club by two goals to one.
Earlier, ONGC took the early lead netting the ball in the very fifth minute of the match with Kalash Patail beating the advancing goal-keeper. The fighting ONGC Club well maintained the upper hand in the first half play.
However, in the 63rd minute of the match, Air India brought in the equalizer through ND Opera. Five minutes later, Air India went ahead when Vivek Singh netted the ball to the surprise of entire ONGC defense line up.
In the final and prize distribution function, Minister for Sports, Raman Bhalla and Minister for Health and Medical Education, Taj Mohi-u-Din were the guests who gave away the title trophies and other individual prizes.

Srinagar boys lift U-17 football title

SRINAGAR, June 10: Host district Srinagar clinched the inter-district state level boys' under-17 trophy after they defeated district Baramulla 2-0 in the final played at Anjum Ground, Bemina, here today.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played in the morning session, Baramulla outplayed district Ganderbal while Jammu district lost to Srinagar at Government Higher Secondary School, Zadibal.
This two-day competition was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) as part of the annual calendar of activities.


JKDRA organises 5th Junior Drop Roball C’ship

Jammu, June 10: Jammu & Kashmir Drop Roball Association (JKDRA) today organised 5th Junior National Drop Roball District Championship at Vidhya Peeth Hr. Sec School and Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi Panjthirthi, Jammu. Chander Shekhar Sharma (Sr. Leader PDP J.East) was Chief Guest in the opening ceremony. The Championship will last till 12th of June, 2014 and about Eighteen teams from all over India will be participating in the tournament.
Rajeev Kumar(Dist. Gen. Sec. PDP), Rajinder (PDP Sr. Leader), Amit Gupta, Brijbhushan Sharma, Ajay Verma(President JKDRA), Sunil Kumar(Vice President), Irfan Choudhary (Gen. Secy JKDRA) and other members of JKDRA were also present .

Manzoor guides RCC Budgam lift T20 trophy

SRINAGAR, June 10: Sailing on brilliant knock from Manzoor, the RCC Budgam today clinched the Budgam Twenty20 Cricket Tournament trophy outplaying Master XI Ompora by seven wickets in the final played at Budgam, here today.
Manzoor missed the century mark by one run facing just 47 deliveries thereby entertained the crowd at the packed Budgam ground.
Earlier, RCC Budgam won the toss and opted to field. Batting first, Masters XI set a target of 185 runs for the loss of six wickets, which, in reply, RCC Budgam overhauled attaining the goal in the 19th over losing three wickets.
Manzoor was later declared man of the match for his brilliant innings while man of the series trophy went to Zahid Rasool of Masters XI.
In the final and prize distribution function, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir, SA Mujtaba was chief guest, who presented winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Among others present were SP Budgam and other senior officers of the district.
This Twenty20 tournament was organised by the District Police Budgam under Civic Action Programme.

Nat Manch stages street play
"Ek Dhan Maha Kalayan"

JAMMU, June 10: In its Tuesday series of street plays, the Nat Manch today staged nukkad natak "Ek Dhan Maha Kalayan" at Rajpura Chungi near AG Office, Jammu. The play was written by Sahil Tilak Sharma and directed by Tarun Sharma renowned theater artist of the state. The Nat Manch also completed its 114 shows as the part of its ongoing Tuesday series.
The story of the play was based on the importance of blood donation and eye donation which sensitize the importance of blood donation and eye donation. Those actors who performed in the play were Tarun Sharma, Sammer Bhatti, Vikas Jasrotia, Nikhil Sharma and Sourav Sharma.



After long wait, Kashmir all set to witness full shooting of Bollywood movie

SRINAGAR, June 10: Kashmir valley is all set to witness full shooting of a Bollywood film as a production house today announced that their upcoming film would be shot completely in Kashmir known as 'Paradise on Earth' to the outside world.
Amazing Dreams, a production house from Bollywood has made up its mind to shoot their entire movie in Kashmir with the shooting beginning very soon. By shooting the film in Kashmir the production house wants to give a message that all is well in Kashmir as for as shooting of movies are concerned.
"We want to show the world that all is well in Kashmir. We are launching this film today which will be shot entirely in the Kashmir valley," said Farooq Qurashi, director of the file titled Dildariyan while addressing a press conference here today.
Kashmir's Sahil Khan plays the role of the lead actor in the film along with many other local artistes.
Qurashi said earlier only a song was scheduled to be shot in Kashmir but after seeing the location of the place the film producer decided to shoot the entire film here. "Kashmir is such a beautiful place to shoot for films and movies. Why should we visit foreign places when we have such a beautiful locations in our country," he said.
Qurashi said that since past two decades many negatives were coming out about Kashmir but coming over here allayed all the apprehensions of the people involved with the film.
"We all know how Kashmir was portrayed in the outer world but after visiting this beautiful place we did not find such things here. We want to say to all people particularly film makers all is well in Kashmir. Come here and promote this place," said Qurashi.
Producer of the film Neelima Sharma said that whatever the film would fetch she won't mind adding that there is an element of happiness in the film. She said that a positive massage will go outside from the film.
"I don't bother about the money but my efforts would be to tell the world that Kashmir is the most safest and beautiful place on earth," said Neelima.
Speaking on the occasion, Sahil Khan said that it was the happiest moment of his life to shoot the film in his home land. "This is the proudest moment of life that I am doing a lead role in my own home land as I insisted the director and producer of the film to shoot the entire film here," said Sahil.
