Early TImes Report

JAMMU, June 10: Kashmiri Pandits have while welcoming concern of Narendera Modi Government on the plight of displaced Pandits from Valley, various KP organizations have urged the Government not to take any decision in hurry in this regard.
Various KP organizations including Kashmir, Samiti Delhi (KSD), Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC), Displaced KPs United Front etc have demanded that the issue be first discussed with community leadership as any decision taken in haste and without taking ground realities into consideration is slated to boomerang.
KSD president Vijay Raina while commenting on Union Government's move said that Pandits are craving to return to Kashmir but the atmosphere is not conducive for the same as yet. He while expressing apprehensions that such a move will prove inimical to the interests of minority community in the State, demanded that the KPs be rehabilitated at the places where they are putting up at present or otherwise be settled in a separate homeland in Kashmir Valley with free flow of Indian Constitution.
Raina in a statement released to the press has also appealed all KP organizations to evolve a consensus on the issue as return to Valley is a serious issue on which there should be unanimous opinion in the community. He said Pandits fully back Mr Modi and his Government but at the same time remind him that any decision taken in hurry on this sensitive issue will neither serve the interests of community nor the nation in view of prevailing situation in Kashmir where terrorism has not been completely weeded out.
KSD has also cautioned the Government in this regard and urged it to take the ground realities into consideration first. KSD chief Kundan Kashmiri said that the Government should first take steps in abrogation of Article 370 which has created a distance between J&K and rest of the country.
He said that Pandits return at this juncture will not be possible as the fear psychosis still prevail in the community due to volatile situation in the Valley.
Kashmiri also demanded that KP leadership be taken into confidence before preparing any blue print on return and their views be respected. He reiterated that settling KPs in clusters are at district headquarters was risky and the Government should go by majority opinion of the community which stands for one place settlement in Valley.
AMCCC chief Desh Rattan has also urged the Government to restore the confidence of the community first by fulfilling other promises as well. He demanded restoration of land encroached by anti social elements in Valley, passage of Shrines and Temples Bill and implementation of job package in letter and spirit.
He said without restoring the confidence of community return will not be possible on which the Government has to take the displaced people also into confidence. Supporting him Vinod Tickoo of Displaced KPs United Front has also demanded one place settlement of the community in Valley was the only viable alternative to sufferings of KPs.
