Four teachers suspended, Sakina's kin spared | Political elite law unto itself! | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, June 10: Political elite is law unto themselves. This is what the Government today exhibited in an action against the absentee teachers of a school in Kulgam District. Deputy Commissioner while acting partially on the information forwarded to him by the district administration officials who during a surprise visit to a school in Nagam area of Kulgam district, found five teachers absent from their duties unauthorized. Reports said that during a surprise visit of the middle school in Nagam, five teachers were found absent out of whom only four teachers were suspended while the cousin of Social Welfare Minister Sakeena Itoo was spared and his name did not figure in suspension order issued by the office of Deputy Commissioner in the district. Reports said Tehsildar concerned during the inspection found five teachers absent from the school. The school arrival record showed that five teachers Shahnawaz Ahmed Lone, Neelofar Yousuf, Showkat Hussain Malik, Basharat Ahmed Itoo and Suraya Akhter were absent from the school. Tehsildar forwarded the arrival register to Deputy Commissioner for immediate suspension of the absent teachers. Surprisingly, the suspension order copy issued by the office of Deputy Commissioner did not mention Basharat Ahmed Itoo who is cousin of the National Conference leader and Social Welfare Minister. This action of the Deputy Commissioner has invited severe criticism from the locals who alleged that law was only for the poor while the rich and influential are law unto themselves. "This is shocking. People who have no influence are targeted while those who have access to power are being spared," a teacher from the school said on condition of anonymity. |
