Fotedar utterings create furore within Congress
Vakil's salvo: Fotedar cannot win even Municipal elections
6/11/2014 10:47:43 PM
Developments 'inappropriate' for party, feel ministers
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: Congress' octogenarian leader Makhan Lal Fotedar's presence in the summer capital continues to create political rumblings, this time within the party as his utterings have prompted Azad loyalists to hit back with stronger reaction. As the scene turns murkier with harsh statements from both ends, party ministers see this most 'inappropriate' and damaging for the Congress at a time when state is heading for Assembly elections. Sources said while Vice President of J&K PCC Abdul Ghani Vakil fired salvo against Fotedar for latter's utterings that losers in LS polls including Ghulam Nabi Azad could not lay claim as front runner of CM candidate, the ministers too are not happy about the way Fotedar has been speaking to media, with pointed criticism towards all at the state level. " Though we met Fotedar personally and discussed about party matters and coalition government's key agenda ahead of Assembly election but almost all of us were of the opinion that it was not time for pointing fingers and speaking utterly against any of the leaders in the state....", said a senior Congress minister while admitting that Fotedar statements have created furore and resentment within the state unit. As senior most leader from New Delhi it was befitting on his part to bridge the gaps within the party. He should have instead tried to focus on unity all levels within the state unit, the Congress minister said while speaking to ET.
Sources also said even as ministers have chosen studied silence despite Fotedar's critical remarks, the latter faced wrath from ever vocal and staunch loyalist of Ghulam Nabi Azad who went on to the extent of daring him to contest Municipal or Panchayat elections. Pertinently, in a strongly worded statement Abdul Gani Vakil today said that statement of Fotedar depicts his complete disconnect with the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He even went on to say that Fotedar is ignorant of the present ground situation and political realities besides as he has been out of the State domicile for more than forty years and he arrives here only on auspicious day of Kheerbhawani Mela. Emboldened by Vakil's brazen remarks, sources said this has created a murmur within the party with most of the leaders questioning whether Fotedar has been authorized by high command to make such statement which would do more harm than any good to the party prospects in the election year.
