Council to start swimming pool before June 20

JAMMU, June 11: Finally, the wait is over. The State Sports Council has decided to start the swimming pool at MA Stadium, here after a gap of three years. The swimming facility is expected to begin the season before June 20.
The contractor assigned with the task to reconstruct the only government-run swimming pool in the state has almost finished the work job and may handover the project to the autonomous sports body around June 15.
"As promised, the swimming pool shall be made functional within a week. The concerned staff has been directed to fill the pool with fresh water from tomorrow so as to make it ready for trial run," Executive Engineer of the State Sports Council, Sher Khan told SAN.
Earlier, the pool was expected to get ready in the first week of May but the slow working at the filtration plant delayed the start by over a month.
"Now, with the installation of filtration plant, the work is almost complete. We will be handing over the swimming pool to the State Sports Council before March 15," informed men working at the filtration plant.
Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that the Sports Council has yet to make a beginning at the changing, wash rooms and showers, a pre-requisite for the aquatic sports facility.
"The Council has yet to plan the renovation work at the changing, wash rooms and showers. As per the insiders, the Engineering wing may start the pool only this season and postpone the related works," said a senior officer of the Council.


Kayaking, Canoeing meet from June 20

SRINAGAR, June 11: Earlier scheduled to start from June 23, the Kayaking, Canoeing, Dragon Boat and Canoe Polo Championship shall now be held from June 20 to June 22 at Water Sports Centre, Nehru Park, here.
The competition shall be held in the events of K1, K2, C1, C2, Dragon Boat and Canoe Polo (200 and 500 meters) in both men and women sections.
Those interested in taking part in this event can still submit their entries with the organizers on or before June 16 at Nehru Park personally or on Mobile No. 9419092137.
Aghar Jitto dangal on June 14

SRINAGAR, June 11: The 51st Annual Aghar Jitto Kesari Vishal Dangal, organized by Shri Baba Jitto Mandir Development Committee Aghar Jittoo in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, shall take place at Village Agar Jitto in district Reasi on June 14.
Around 60 prominent wrestlers from within and outside the state shall take part in this dangal which is part of the three-day annual mela.
A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the organising committee held under the chairmanship of president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Among others present in the meeting were Mohan Lal Babaji, Sarpanch Krishan Singh (Pappu), Headmaster Gopal Krishan, Ramesh Kumar Sanmotra, Mangat Ram, Om Parkash Malkotra, Sunil Kohli, Kriahan Chand Verma, Bansi Lal, Bodh Raj, Om Parkash, Bishan Dass, Ramesh Kumar, Ram, Pt. Rameshwar and Mohinder Kumar.


Natrang to stage Bawa Jitto plays at Katra

Jammu, June 11: Natrang is going to present two shows of internationally acclaimed Balwant Thakur's Dogri play 'Bawa Jitto's two shows at the Aghar Jitto Mela (Katra) on the evening of 13th and 14th of June, 2014.
According to press release, the birth place of Bawa Jitto-Aghar Jitto will be enlivened with the presentation of mega theatrical presentation 'Bawa Jitto' where people will have the rarest occasion to witness live the 15th century saga of supreme sacrifice.
This was disclosed here today by Padamshree Balwant Thakur at a press briefing held at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu. Giving details he said that with the support of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra and District Administration, Reasi, two shows of the much celebrated Dogri play 'Bawa Jitto' are being organised at village Aghar Jitto, Katra which will be the only and major attraction of Aghar Jitto Mela and is being visited by thousands of the devotees of Bawa Jitto coming from across the country.
Balwant Thakur thanked Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and District Development Commissioner, Reasi Shahid Iqbal Choudhary for giving Natrang an opportunity to demonstrate before public the glimpses of their own history, heritage and cultural belongings. He further informed that Bawa Jitto has been one of the great devotee of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi who use to offer prayers at the Shrine every morning climbing the hills all way from the village Aghar and wanted the staging of the shows based on this saga of the supreme sacrifice of Bawa Jitto to become a permanent feature during the annual Aghar Jitto Mela.
He appealed all the stakeholders to come forward and support him to use this as an opportunity to revive the priceless cultural traditions which have the capacity to become global tourism attraction. Last year also Natrang presented two shows of the play in the similar mela which were witnessed by thousands of the audiences.
Written by Prof Ram Nath Shastri, the play Bawa Jito is set in the rural backdrop, story of Bawa Jitto portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. Due to the constant and persistent pressures of relatives, with a piece of land as bone of contention, Bawa Jitto, a hard working, farm less farmer is forced to leave his native village.
Accompanied by his nine-year-old daughter, he takes shelter in the house of a friend in Shamachak, a nearby village. The efforts of his friend Rullo result in a land grant from landlord in Shamachak and one fourth of the produce is fixed as land revenue. The hard work put in by him, the sweat and toil of Jitto turns a barren land into prolific treasure. This makes avaricious landlord to back out on his word and ask for major share of the crop. Helpless Jitto, unable to endure injustice, kills himself. The agony becomes boundless when Gauri, his little daughter immolates herself on her father's pyre.

'Workshop on cookery' held at Jain School

JAMMU, June 11: The President of Shri Mahavira Jain Mahila Shilp Kala Kendra - Patel Bazar, Mrs Shashi Jain an eminent nutrient expert while interacting with participants in a 'workshop on cookery' underlined that home cooked food and recipes are full of calories, proteins, calcium, vitamins and other nutritious ingredients.
She while interacting with participants in the four day long workshop from June 9, organized at Shri Mahavir Jain Hr Sec. School Jammu said this (homemade food) not only strengthens an emotional bond within family members but also offers a healthy and balanced diet to the people.
Apart from Shashi Jain among other cooking expert included Vandana, Geetu, Megha, Suditi, Anubha rendered their services in this workshop. The participants were trained to make various food stuff like mint rice, strawberry pudding, cakes and shakes etc. Among others present in this workshop on Wednesday were Vice President Sikandra (Gen Secy), Neelam Jain (Joint Secy), Renuka (Cashier), Rita Jain and other committee members.


Shiksha Niketan students leave
for Dharamshalla

JAMMU, June 11: The second batch of Tawi Trekkers J&K, comprising 45 students of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, left today for Dharamshala to participate in the ongoing Dharamshala trekking programme.
With this, the total participation in the two trekking programmes, being organized by the Club in Moungri area of Udhampur district and Dhauladhar Himalaya in Himachal Pradesh, has gone up to 250.
The group led by two trained mountaineers Sonam Sidharth and Mrigank Kaushal was flagged off from the school premises by Principal of the school, Rameshwar Mengi. Four teachers of the school, Arjun Singh, Sahil Slathia, Ashok Manhas and Anil Bajwa also accompanied the group.
Meanwhile, the next batch of Moungri trekking comprising second group of Oriental Academy, Jammu shall leave for the venture tomorrow.
It may be mentioned here that Tawi Trekkers J&K is a voluntary adventure sports organization run by highly dedicated young boys and girls whose only motive is to spread the spirit of adventure amongst all strata of society without distinction of caste, class or colour.


JK Montessorie organizes summer camp (Oasis)

Jammu, June 11: In the ongoing 23rd Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships at Thane, Maharashtra, Mitali and Palak Kour of J & K State won the All Round Best Gymnast Title as duo won Silver & Bronze respectively.
The championship was started on 8th june, 2014. Mitali and Palak of jammu and Kashmir have been adjudged second and third overall best while the first position with gold medal went to Prabhjot of Punjab.
These three Gymnasts have also been selected for Commonwealth Games to be held at Scotland, in July 2014.


Bhalla inaugurates Divisional/district office complex of YSS

SRINAGAR, June 11: upgradation of sports infrastructure and promotion of sports activities across the State is among top priorities of government, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Youth Services & Sports, Raman Bhalla stated after inaugurating a divisional/District office complex of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) at Gugjibagh Srinagar here today.
Bhalla also said that sports activities plays pivotal role in shaping a person's personality and is very important for youth physically and mentally sound besides teaches them discipline, mutual brother hood and moral and ethical values. He said government has given focussed attention to promote the sports activities and in this regard numbers of projects are being implemented all across the State. On the occasion, interacted with the officers Bhalla emphasised upon them to provide better and improved facilities to the youth besides encourage youth to participate in sports events and activates which are very useful for their sound physical and mental health.
Bhalla also visited the J&K sports youth hostel building and went round the various blocks of the hostel complex. He also inspected various rooms being used for accommodation of players participating sports events. DG YSS, Naveen Agarwal, Secretary YSS and Technical Education, Parvaiz Malik and Secretary J&K Sports Council, Thussu, besides other officers and sports activists were also present on the occasion.



Workshop on "Personality Development and Teaching Skills" concludes

Jammu, June 11: Ten days workshop on "Personality Development and enhancement of Teaching Skills" was concluded at R.M Public School . The workshop was aimed at the personality development of the teachers.
Speaking on the occasion. Chairman, R.M. Public School, Rameshwar Mengi also stressed on the correct pronunciation of the words. He said as futuristic educators this is an important skill for the teachers and the teachers must use correct pronunciation to imbibe the same in their students. He also appreciated the efforts of the college staff members for holding such workshop to improve teaching skills and personality of the teachers.



NCC Condoles the ultimely demise of Prof. B S Jaswal

Jammu, June 11: President, Secretary and members of National Cricket today condoled the sudden and ultimely demise of Prof. B.S Jaswal (President of Jammu Cricket Club and Outstanding Cricketer of J&K) at Jammu.
The Condolence meeting was chaired by Prof. Ashutosh Sharma(President N.C.C).
Two minutes silence was observed in a mark of respect to the Great Cricketer and his contribution towards the development of Cricket was lauded by all the members. All the persons present there prayed to almighty to grant piece to jaswal’s noble soul.

Sacred Heart College of Education celebrates Annual Day

Smt Rajni Bala chairperson of the college was the Chief Guest while Managing Director college Hari Singh Chib attended as Guest of Honour.
At the onset of occasion, Dr K K Tiwari Principal read out annual report and highlighted the achievements of the college during academic year.
The chief guest -Chairperson of the college Smt Rajni Bala in her address said there is no match of quality education which includes curricular and co-curricular activities.
Thereafter the chief guest distributed prizes and certificates among the students who achieved excellence in different co-curricular activities which include Rangoli competition and sport events.
Prizes were also presented to Arvind Sambyal,Jeevan lal, Manmohan, Sunil Kumar and Nitesh Raina for 'tug of war'; Sunil , Minkal, Vishal , Vimal, Nitesh for Kho-Kho; Sudhir Chauhan for chess competition while Arvind Sambyal got certificate of appreciation for his participation in State Level seminar.
Similarly Poonam Sakshi, Nisha Kalla and Rohail Khajuria got certificate of appreciation for their participation at Inter College Quiz Competition held at G.C.W Gandhi Nagar.
