KUPWARA, June 11: Inhabitants of several villages in this frontier district of Kupwara are up in arms against the Roads and Building Department authorities for failing to undertake repairs of roads in Munwan-Reshwari in Avoora area here.
The locals allege that successive regimes and MLAs always played politics over the issues that concern people. According to residents of Munwan-Reshwari village, the local MLA from National Conference, Mir Saifullha had not given any heed to our demands as we approached to him many times in past but all in vein.
According to Sarpanch of Halqa Avoora-D Mohammad Younis Khan while complaining the issue with Early Times said the politicians should rise above their personal rivalry and work for the welfare of the people. "They (politicians) played much politics for their personal cause. They should at least care for the people who always suffer at the end of the day."
"It is a matter of serious concern for us. The dilapidated condition of roads can lead to major accidents as school-going children have to pass through it daily," said Khan.
The local's of an area demands the work should be started by R&B department at earliest and have appealed concerned MLA to initiate the work as soon as possible without playing politics over it".
They said one and a half kilometer road is in dilapidated condition which has caused inconvenience to inhabitants of Reshwari Payeen, Zamran Bala, Gorinad and Avoora and several other habitations. "It is like a nightmare to travel on this road. Due to potholes and frequent bumps many commuters prefer to stay in homes.
"Our school going children and patients are the worst hit due to government negligence as these roads were repaired during former MLA Ghulam Qadir Mir in 1996, and by the time we were ignored by one and all, Mohammad Sultan a local said.
Among many villages of the area, Avoora, Munwan-Reshwari is the favorite victim to government apathy for about two decades. The roads were constructed in 1996 till date these roads were never repaired by R&B which has become the serious concern for the inhabitants of the area.
"Dilapidated condition of the road causes immense inconvenience to them. Though the R&B authorities blacktopped other roads in the district but they have completely forgotten the Manwan-Reshwari road from past one decade. This is sheer discrimination with us," Sultan said.
