Adventure camp concludes at Apple Kids Bantalab

JAMMU, June 12: The nine-day long adventure camp, organized by Apple Kids International Pre-School, Bantalab concluded with the holding of valedictory function at the school premises, here today.
"During the camp the participants in the age group of three to 12 years were trained in sport climbing, beam balancing, tarzan swing, rope knots and tent pitching. Films on adventure were screened which kept the small children spell bound," said Principal of the school, Puja Sharma.
Besides adventure activities, over 100 participants from various local schools enjoyed dance and music, taekwando, yoga, splash pool, a magic show and number of creative activities in art and craft.
Competitions in sport climbing, taekwando, dance, music, art and craft were also organized on different days of the camp and winners were honored on the concluding day.
The activities were held under the able guidance of Sumit Khajuria, MOI in Mountaineering, Marvi Sharma and Rajni Verma (art and craft), Gurinder Rakwal (Taekwando), Nitin Kumar (dance), Preeti Kesar and Vivek (music), and Akshi Sharma.
On the concluding day today, Principal of the school, Puja Sharma distributed medals to the winners of the various competitions held during the camp.
Eminent personalities who visited the camp to interact with participants and also to share their experiences with the young campers included Assistant Director Doordarshan, Sanjit Khajuria, and general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria. Sanjit Khajuria also delivered an interesting lecture on personality development of a child.

Beam Balancing: Pragun Khajuria of Sprawling Buds School, Ist; Sanyam Nagar of Sprawling Buds School, 2nd.
Music: Ritikesh Bhat of Sprawling Buds School, Ist; Manya Sharma of Presentation Convent School, 2nd and Zoya Fatima of Apple Kids International Pre-School, Bantalab, 3rd.
Commando Net: Sanyam Bhat and Nandini Dhar of Sprawling Buds School, Ist; Satyendra Pratap of Apple Kids International Pre-school, Bantalab, 2nd and Aansh of GD Goenka School, 3rd.

GDC Kathua felicitates meritorious students

Kathua, June 12: Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua today honored its brilliant students who brought laurels to the college by bagging the most coveted positions in Science, BBA and Commerce streams in the recently declared results of BA/BSc/BCom/BCA Part-3rd.
As per press release, the students who brought laurels to the institution included Shivam Mahajan of BSc Part-III who got 3rd position in Science Stream by securing 84.84% marks, Vivek Jasrotia who got 4th position in BBA by earning 75.2% marks and Alka Devi who got 9th position in Commerce with 69.9% marks in Jammu University.
In a simple ceremony, Principal of the College, Dr. Nater Singh, congratulated the students who got positions in the recently declared result by University of Jammu. He also applauded the students for their dedicated efforts and unflinching commitment to the cause of studies and wished them a bright and happy future.


6th Junior Drop Roball Championship Concludes

Jammu, June 12: 6th Junior National Drop Roball District Championship at Vidhya Peeth Hr. Sec School and Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi Panjthirthi organized by Jammu & Kashmir Drop Roball Association (JKDRA) concluded today here in Jammu.
Valid Mahajan (Ex- MLC)was Chief Guest in the closing ceremony. The Championship was started on 10th of June, 2014 and about Eighteen teams from all over India ,participated in the tournament.
Sunil Kumar(President), Irfan Choudhary (Gen. Secy JKDRA) and other members of JKDRA were also present .



MV International School organizes workshop

Jammu, June 12: In order to instill the qualities of leadership among the members of students' council, MV International School today organized training program for its council members, house wardens and coordinators. Director of the school Gourav Abrol and Principal KL Dogra were also present on the occasion. Program was organized by famous counselor and trainer Kunal Anand. Various important aspects were covered such as qualities of a good leader, how to become a good and effective leader, Do's and Don'ts for a successful leader, importance of communication skills and means to improve it, importance of team work & its relevance in achievement of goals of an institution, personality development. The session was quite interactive full with new innovative methods of training. The session also covered on the key aspects such as importance of decision making, self discipline in life, time and stress management, goal settings and means of achieving them with judicious planning and its execution. The students were also guided in the direction of self motivation that ultimately fetches all the above factors. The workshop concluded with certification to all participants.



15-day Archery camp gets underway

JAMMU, June 12: A fortnight long special coaching camp, organised by the J&K Archery Association in collaboration with State Sports Council, got underway at MA Stadium, here today.
Though the opening day witnessed a lackluster response from the youngsters of Jammu, still the organizers were hopeful of a better response in coming days.
However, a four-member team, led by Punjab coach, Gourav Sharma, looked prepared to train the young boys and girls of Jammu in India's medal winning game at the international level.
"A couple of young boys have already joined the camp and we are hopeful of a good response. To begin with fitness tips, these boys and girls will be trained in basics of archery," said National bronze medalist and junior state coach of Punjab, Gourav Sharma.
Other members of the Gourav's team are All India Inter-University silver medalist, Achin Kumar, inter-college gold winner, Aman Singh Chauhan and Punjab state medalist, Jaskaran Dhinsa.
Meanwhile, J&K Archery Association has planned to set up a regular coaching centre at MA Stadium after getting young boys and girls trained during the ongoing 15-day specialized camp.
"The ongoing camp would help lay a foundation for making archery a regular event within the MA Stadium. Since the basic infrastructure has already been set in place by the State Sports Council, the Association will help in setting up a permanent coaching centre," informed general secretary of the Association, Sunil Sharma.


Trekking programme to Mongri concludes

JAMMU, June 12: The last batch of Tawi Trekkers, J&K comprising 36 students, including eight girls of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, today left today for Mongri to participate in J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme being organized by the Club at Mongri about 50 km from Udhampur.
The group led by Aman Arora, a trained mountaineer was flagged off by Vivek Chouhan, Administrator of Oriental Academy and general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria included four teachers, Nishu Dubey, Seema Bakshi, Sukanya Sharma and Sheetal Raina.
During the three-day venture, the budding trekkers shall be trained in rock climbing and river crossing besides learning the dos and don'ts of trekking and conservation of nature. They shall also be taught to respect nature and leave a clutter of left over in the jungles en route.
It may be recalled that Himalayan Trekking Programme was undertaken by the Club in 1990 for school children in the age group of 10-14 years in order to catch them young. During the past 25 years, it has been the most popular activity of the Club during summer vacations in which over 1000 boys and girls have participated so far.


NGM organizes prize distribution function

Jammu, June 12: NGM College of Education, Dhinde, Miran Sahib on Thursday organized prize distribution function in college auditorium.
The programme was inaugurated by the Managing Director Ankush Mahajan. The function started with Saraswati Bandana and was followed by group dances and solo dances performed by different students. Prizes were distributed in different categories. Mandeep Kour and Rubia Begum were adjudged as most regular students for the session 2013-2014. Ivrandeep Kour and Supriya were declared as best overall performers of the session. Arti Chib and Rasmeet Kour were declared as the best sports persons of the session 2013-2014.
All these candidates were awarded with certificates of appreciation by the director of the College BL Thusoo and medal by the Principal and staff of the College. Toppers of the College for the session 2013-14 were also invited specially by management of College to award memento and certificate of appreciation.
Amongst the toppers Mandhakni was the first position holder, Shalini was the 2nd position holder, Mukta was the 3rd position holder of the College as per the gazette published by university of Jammu of B.Ed. Course for the session 2012-13.

'Run for Thalassemia & ‘Say No to Tobacco' marathon organized

Jammu, June 12: Over 350 people took part in a 'Run for Thalassemia & ‘Say No to Tobacco' marathon here this morning. The Marathon was organized by Gian Jyoti Group under the aegis of Gian Jyoti Educational Society in association with Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), Mohali powered by Bari-Brahamana Rotary Club, Sharma Industries, Shree Agencies and Urban Farm.

The Marathon was organized to raise awareness about ill effects of tobacco and started from Bari-Brahamana and ended in Adda Sarore, Jammu in which students, faculty members of the institutions and general public of Jammu participated in large numbers. Max Hospital, which is empanelled with Jammu and Kashmir Government for cashless treatment of both retired and serving Government employees and their families, was the healthcare partner of the Institute. The chief guest on the occasion was Deputy Commissioner, Samba, R K Verma who flagged off the march. The Guest of Honour was Chander Prakash Ganga, Sr. Vice - President BJP, J&K. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Jai Ram Sharma, President Rotary Club Bari - Brahamana, Sanjeev Sharma Vice President Rotary Club Bari- Brahamana, Pawan Bakshi, Satish Sharma, Ashwani, Dr. Gurdeep and Dr Aneet, Dean, Academics, Gian Jyoti Group . The Group distributed the T - shirts to the participants. The prizes were given to first 50 students and participants. Jagvinder S Thakur, Senior Lecturer, Gian Jyoti Group Chandigarh who was the event coordinator said that this marathon was organized in support of Thalassemia patients and also for a social awareness against smoking and tobacco use. He said that the menace of tobacco had gripped the youth and it was high time that the younger generation be sensitized towards it. J S Bedi, Chairman, Gian Jyoti Group said that our group was committed to produce ethically sound and socially responsible professionals. We have always been on the forefront to discharge our duties towards societal well-being. Various events were organised in different parts of the country to create awareness of the general public regarding issues and evils concerning our society. In pursuit of the same, we have organized this marathon at Jammu, he asserted.

Ongoing Gufran Memorial T20 Cricket Championship Concludes

Banaras defeat Banihal, Bagged Final Trophy

Banaras Cricket Club today defeated Islamia Cricket Club in the Final match of the ongoing All India 10th Gufran Memorial T20 Cricket Championship 2014 being played at Sports Stadium Doda.

The tournament was organised by Young Star Cricket Club (YSCC) Doda and sponsored by J&K Bank, Bajaj Allianz and Rashtriya Rifles Rajput Unit Doda. In the Final match played between Banaras Cricket Club vs Islamia Cricket Club Banihal, batting first after winning the toss Banaras Cricket Club made 163 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in stipulated 20 Overs. Galib Ansari scored 88 runs while Nishant made 35 runs. For Islamia Cricket Club Banihal ,Shakel and Imran Dar got 3&3 wickets each.

In reply Islamia Cricket Club Banihal could not chased the target and manage to score 137 Runs in 20 overs with the loss of 9 wickets, Mukhtiwer made 27 and Atif Nabi contributed 22 to the total. For Banaras Cricket Club Jatinder and Himant Rai take 2&2 Wicket Each.

Galib Ansari of Banaras Cricket Club was declared as Man of the Match for his best Bating performance and was awarded with cash price of one thousands.

Kuldeep Pal was awarded as the Man of the Series who got 18 wickets and scored special 124 runs. He was awarded with Motor Bike (Platina).

MLC Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy was the Chief Guest on the occasion and distributed awards while Col. Sunil Mishra (Commandant 10 RR) was Guest of Honour. Winner team gets 80,000 as cash prize while runner up bagged 40,000 as cash prize.



Other Guest Mubarak Singh (Deputy Commissioner Doda), Shireif Chouhan (SSP Doda), Mushtaq Ahmed (DSP Hq Doda),

Saleem Gania (Manager Bajaj Allianz),Ex. Municipality Chairman,Ahmed Batt, Ishtiaq Ahmed (Senior Journalist), Dr Akhter Hussain etc were also present on the Occasion.



Speaking on the occasion ,MLC Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy said that the event like this should be organized frequently to develop the team sprit and to increase brotherhood among the different states of the country. He also congratulated YSCC for conducting such a big event

Mehboob Kripak Manager YSCC thanked Distt Administration, Security Forces saying that this event in last 10 years has contributed a lot in the cricket history of Doda and has assured that the temper of sincere cricket will be maintain throughout.

The match was officiated by Darmesh Bhardwaj and Sanjay Singh as Umpires while Waseem Raja acted as Scorer
