Citizenry demands stringent anti rape laws
6/12/2014 11:04:15 PM

SRINAGAR, June 12: The recent trend in crime against women in the state speaks volumes about the recklessness of the people in power. It seems that the people in power are hand in glove with the criminals who commit shameful acts without any fear. The graph of the violence against the women has scaled all heights and women feel insecure in venturing out of their homes. "The recent incidents of rape and murder have made the parents scared and annoyed. The parents of the school going girls are more apprehensive because they have to leave for the coaching centers very early in the morning. It gives parents restless moments," said Bashir Ahmad from Srinagar while talking to EARLY TIMES.
The incidents of rape and murder have become the order of the day. The people involved in these heinous crimes seemingly have got liberty as there are no laws to ensure safety of women.
"These days the news papers are flooded with the reports of rape and murder. The situation is so much out of control that even the minors are not spared," said some concerned parents while talking to EARLY TIMES.
These parents went on saying that these are the consciousness shaking incidents but the people in power are watching all this like mute spectators, hence encouraging the criminals.
It is futile to expect the delivery of justice from the people in power when the cases of sexploitation are pending against the top leaders of the ruling coalition parties. Instead they have been shielded by the respective party high commands. "There is a need for stringent laws that could become effective deterrents for such crimes" said Ali Mohammad from Budgam.
Be it the residence of the minister, doctor's cabin or the principal's office, none of the places is secure for women as is evident from reports of hostilities carried in the dailies. "What can one do when the lawmakers turn lawbreakers and custodians become cheaters" he added.
"If the steps are not taken to control this growing menace, there will be even worse to follow," said a group of people at Srinagar while talking to EARLY TIMES.
