Govt releases 21 Cr to rejuvenate Pharnai Hydel Project | | | M S Nazki
Mendhar, June 12: Government of Jammu and Kashmir today released Rs. 21 Cr to rejuvenate Pharnai Hydel Project-the only hope of twin border district of Poonch and Rajouri to be self reliant as far as generation of hydroelectricity is concerned. The project started in 1992 in Jammu's Poonch district and was subsequently closed after a gap of six year due to turmoil in the state when militancy was at its peak. The project was again given a facelift by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on December 10, 2013 and the building which was occupied by 6th Battalion of JKAP was vacated for use by Patel Engineering Company who will execute the project further. The project comprises of three divisions namely Draba, Bhata and Dhurian areas falling in Surankote and Mendhar Tehsil of the Poonch district on about 61.7 Hectares of land purchased by Jammu and Kashmir government. As per analysts, the project in Mendhar will produce 37.5 MW electricity. "A tunnel measuring 8.7 KM will also be constructed from Bhata to Dhurian to shorten the distance for the convenience of general public", said Shiv Kr. Sharma, AEE Pharnai Project. Sharma however complained shortage of clerical as well as accounting staff to execute the project and demanded from state government to fulfil the same at an earliest for hasty execution of the project. |
