Doda unit of Congress lost in oblivion | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 12: The Doda unit of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has almost gone into hiding after the recent poll results of Lok Sabha in which the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Doda constituency eliminated it. BJP had never got more than 18000 votes in any elections in the Doda Assembly segment before the last Parliamentary elections, but during recent Lok Sabha elections they broke all records when the BJP candidate for Udhampur-Doda constituency, Dr. Jatindra Singh got more than 18000 votes. This has shattered the Doda unit of Congress party which hasn't been able to get on its feet ahead of the assembly elections just a few month away. Sources in the Congress party told Early Times that Congress leaders of Doda district are demanding resignation of district President, Naresh Gupta, who is also Member of Legislative Council (MLC). "These leaders are blaming that Gupta was not able to get the Hindu vote in favour for Ghulam Nabi Azad which gave BJP an edge over him all over," sources added. But at the same time onus is being put on the R&B minister, Abdul Majid Wani, who is the local MLA of Doda and was not able to reach out to the people and get popular support for Azad. "There is an opinion within the party that Wani didn't work for the people after he became cabinet Minister. He was not available for common people and was mostly busy in Jammu and Srinagar," sources said. They added that Wani didn't do any developmental work in the district and people had gone against him and it reflected in he results. Now, there is a tug of war in Doda unit of party and nobody is taking the responsibility of poll debacle. |
