| Massive snow clearance operation on to meet Amarnath yatra's deadline | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 12: Racing against time, authorities have launched a massive snow clearance operation on traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal routes to meet the deadline for annual Amarnath pilgrimage, commencing from June 28.
Considerable snow was still accumulated at different camp locations, including Panjtarni and both track.
To meet the deadline, authorities have engaged hundreds of labourers and other workers to clear the snow on the 48-km-long Pahalgam-holy Cave shrine track.
Similarly, a massive snow clearance operation is also going on on shortest Baltal route to make sure that first batch of yatris undertake the pilgrimage as per scheduled on June 28, official sources said.
They said at some places, the snow is more than five to eight foot high. Labourers and other workers are busy making road through manually since there is no possibility of taking any snow clearance machine there.
Heavy damage was caused to infrastructure at different locations on both the tracks due to heavy snowfall this winter.
However, reconstruction and renovation work of damged infrastructure at different halting stations besides at two base camps was going on a war footing. At some places, just final touches are needed to make the arrangements ready before the commencement of the yatra. |
