Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 12: With AICC reshuffle on cards, J&K too is all set to have an incharge from New Delhi who would lead from the front in run up to Assembly elections in the state and put the party into aggressive preparatory mode much ahead of polls. Most of the leaders are strongly recommending the name of Ambika Soni to take over the charge for J&K, given her experience and knowledge of ground realities of political turf in J&K.
Sources said even though the state unit (PCC leadership) has started in its own way the activities to put the party back on track after it witnessed worst ever debacle in LS polls, all eyes are now as to who would be appointed next incharge of J&K which assumes much significance in view of Assembly elections in few months from now. Sources also said since most of the leaders in both the factions of the Congress are not just acquainted well but also comfortable with Ambika Soni, they are vouching for her name to be appointed for this task. The matter has been discussed by some leaders in concerned quarters in New Delhi , sources said. However, all depends on what shape AICC takes after it undergoes a massive reshuffle any time soon, most likely after Parliament session, sources said adding that it would be determined thereafter when the senior leaders like Soni are given fresh responsibilities at the national level for the party. Soni is likely to get a key responsibility within AICC given her seniority, experience and proximity with Gandhi family, sources further said adding that her debacle in the LS polls would not be an impediment in getting her a key role for the party in so far as executive functionaries are concerned.
Sources also said the name of another senior leader Mohan Prakash is also being tipped for the J&K in view of he having performed this duty in the past before Soni was appointed two years back. However, more voices are in for Soni's name as she has been able to take leaders of both the factions along as and when she visited state during her tenure as J&K incharge. However, the only disagreement with most of the leaders remains for he indispensability as seen during the last two years on account of which she was not able to pay adequate attention nor could visit frequently to state, though her presence was warranted many times when party faced crisis like situations. With party's debacle, her highly pre occupied profile stands diluted and so is she not so busy for her role in the Parliament contrary to past, it is in this light she is expected to pay full attention not only to organizational matters but also to strategy with coalition partner ahead of polls, said the sources. Since Congress has much stakes for J&K in view of its potential for victory on most of the seats in Jammu region, the party high command would also like to focus any incharge it sends to J&K this time, sources further said. It is in this light, the name of another party stalwart known to be meticulous in functioning Kamal Nath is also in circulation in the state for next in charge of J&K.
