Where will Omar play his next innings? | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 12: Deciding a turf for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the forthcoming Assembly elections has become a matter of grave concern for the National Conference leadership. The former spokesperson of the NC, Tanvir Sadiq in a discussion hosted by a local newspaper last week said it was entirely Omar Abdullah's call. "He may or may not contest from Ganderbal. He is a voter from Sonawar constituency and can contest from there as well," he said. However, senior leaders suggest Hazratbal constituency for Omar to prove his prowess. The said constituency is considered a strong bastion of the NC. The Sheikh Family, it is widely believed is scared of contesting from Ganderbal as the area turned tables around for NC during the Parliamentary elections. The PDP, it is said has made deep inroads in the area. The Additional General Secretary, Mustafa Kamaal on December 8, 2013 declared that Omar shall not contest from Ganderbal. However, Omar clarified stating that Kamaal can talk for Hazratbal which he represents. Lal Chowk and Habba Kadal besides Sonawar are being considered but the final decision, sources said, will be taken in a couple of days. The leadership is looking for another suitable constituency to field Farooq Abdullah who is expected to return to state politics and can be the Chief Ministerial candidate of the NC. The NC faced total rout in the just concluded Parliamentary elections. Farooq lost for the first time and all the three Valley seats were won by the opposition PDP. |
