Doda-Kishtwar quake has yet again questioned Govt's sincerity? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: The moderate earthquake in Doda and Kishtwar has once again opened the debate on the safety of more than six lakh people of these twin districts, which has been put on risk by successive governments of the state and union. The moderate earthquake of around 5 magnitude hit twin district of Doda and Kishtwar on Friday evening omitting whole population out of their home and looking for safer places. The quake came more than eight months after around 120 moderate and small intensity quakes shook these districts last year. The process of earthquake started on May 1, 2013 followed by more than 100 aftershocks which frightened people of the area. The Geological Survey of India in 2010 has already declared the area unsafe and pointed out that dam water of Baglihar power project has made inroads in the area and it could one the possible reason of quake in entire Chenab valley. Last year also some geologists termed the construction of power projects and dams in the area dangerous but the government of day is not concerned about the activity. But then government sent its own team comprising of university of Kashmir vice chancellor and few other members who were on the job to clear the perception of people that there is any threat of dam water. But in actual their visit was aimed at giving the clean chit to government to construct more and more dams on river Chenab and its tributaries so that more and more projects could be constructed and state's economy is improved. They were hardly interested in clearing doubts of people and present actual position in front of them. Now, the situation has risen when a real picture needs to be put in front of people of the twin districts so that their lives are saved from the wreath of nature. |
