Kishtwar, June 14: A woman and her two-year-old son died while minor daughter got critically injured when their mud house suddenly collapsed last night in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir following a 5 magnitude earthquake which rattled Doda and Kishtwar Districts of state last evening. According to reports, a kachha house (mud house) this evening at around 1730 hrs collapsed near Government Higher Secondary School in Doda. Reports said a woman identified as Kanta Devi w/o Anil Kumar of Doda and her infant son Nitish and minor daughter Geetanjali, got buried under the debris. "On receiving information police and locals launched a massive rescue operation and the woman and her son were found dead while the girl child was seriously wounded and was immediately shifted to the nearby District Hospital (DH) Doda, reports said. They added the treatment of the injured Geetangli was going on when last report came in and her condition is said to be stable. Meanwhile neighbours informed the "Early Times" that the ill fated house had developed several cracks due to frequent earthquakes particularly on May 1 and 14 last year and failed to resist yesterday's quake. People however cautioned there could be another such tragic incident as there are many houses that are at the verge of collapse and if government fails to provide compensate for due repairs these too will see the same fate. |
