Claim Chhamb from Pakistan: Manjit Singh to GoI | | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur, June 14: While paying tributes to Brigadier Rajinder Singh, who saved Jammu and Kashmir from raiders (Kabaili) attack, former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today sought return of Chhamb area from Pakistan so that the displaced person be settled there. He said this during a memorial function organized at village Rajinder Singh Pura in Vijaypur to pay homage to the great warrior of his time, a function was organized where hundreds of people participated and remembered the contribution of the son of the soil. Addressing the gathering, former minister Manjit Singh said that Brig Rajinder Singh was leading the Army in Jammu and Kashmir when raiders (Kabaili) attacked the state. "It was the bravery of the Indian soldiers led by Brig Rajinder Singh that they (raiders) were pushed back, he recalled. "It was the sacrifice of Rajinder Singh that J&K could be saved from the attack, he said, adding, "there is a need to appraise young generation about the sacrifices and struggle of our freedom fighters, soldiers like Brig Rajinder Singh Ji." For this, he impressed that a chapter saviour should be included in the curriculum for the knowledge of students about Brig Rajinder Singh and his contribution to the State and nation. He further stressed that India should claim Chhamb sector from Pakistan so that the affected families be rehabilitated. Earlier he garlanded the statue of the Brigadier Rajinder Singh to pay homage to warrior who is known as 'Savior of Uri'.
