JAMMU, June 15: Contrary to the tall claims of Jammu University of holding various sports activities on regular basis, nothing much is happening for the sporting community inside the campus.
Cricket, which used to be regular feature, has been long forgotten. Sportsperson are up in arms against JU administration for not holding cricket tournament. On one hand, Director Sports claims of providing better infrastructure to the sportsperson and holds event every year but things on ground are contrary to that.
Sources said that sports meet is held in Jammu University (JU) every year by Directorate of Physical Education in Gymnasium hall. One of the sportsperson wishing not to be named said "JU preferred not to hold even a single tournament. Last year, it was at this time that the tournament ended, he said.
JU administration is playing with the future of sportsperson at a time when they have courage to carve space at the National level, he rued. He further said that during prestigious Indian Science Congress (ISC), University ground was used by administration for holding event where trucks loaded with materials badly damaged the ground.
The load of the trucks resulted in ground getting badly deteriorated and pot holes developing at various places. ""Director Sports, who does not even allow students and the officials to use the ground even for playing purposes without seeking proper permission, allowed the officials to damage the ground. JU administration is solely responsible for giving permission to loaded trucks which makes the condition of ground worst adding, that Annual athletic meet was also cancelled.
It is irony that none of the student organizations have protested over grave happening during ISC which left the sportsperson to suffer for no fault of theirs which clearly indicates that organizations have not shown keen interest to point major flaw, sources regretted. Sources said that JU administration has started removing mud from both the
grounds to cover up the patches and JU is taking mud at exorbitant rate at Rs. 995 per 100 cft previous year, they are getting at the rate of Rs. 595 per 100 cft but in order to gives tender to blue eyed Director approved the same, if the tender is approved prior why mud is not taken at that time, sources questioned????
Director Sports Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau said "You talk about last session; he quipped and said this session is being nullified due to examinations of graduation students and later Indian science congress which delayed it". In response to a question he said "At the rate of Rs. 945 per 100 cft; we are removing mud and upon 4th tender, we accepted the same it is of lowest of all. When asked previous year the rate was RS 585 per 100 cft, he said I was not Director Sports last year".
