Jaitley meets troops on LoC, given brief about anti infiltration grid | | | Early Times Report
uri, June 15: Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today met troops guarding the Line of Control (LOC) in this sector, where he was given a detailed brief about counter infiltration grid operating there. Jaitley, who held separate meetings with senior Army officers and other security agencies, today visited forward posts on the LoC in this sector. He met troops at Rustum post, where he was informed about the measures already in place to foil any infiltration bid from across the border. Defence sources said field commanders informed defence minister that a large number of trained militants are waiting at 'Launch Pads' near LoC waiting for an opportunity to sneak into this side. He was further informed about the attempts being made from across the LoC to send more militants here during the next few months before the infiltration routes are again closed due to snowfall. Since assembly elections are due later this year, there would be attempts by militants to infiltrate into this side to cause disturbances since the Lok Sabha elections were held peacefully, the minister was told. However, he was assured that any infiltration attempt by militants would be foiled. Jaitley was also informed about the successful operation against militants on the LoC and hinterland by troops in which top militant commanders were eliminated. The defence minister was also told about the damage caused to fence on LoC due to heavy snowfall this winter and steps to repair it. |
