'Sham-e-Mousiqee' organized on Police Raising Day Celebrations

Rajouri, June 15: District Police Rajouri organized a colorful cultural programme “Sham-e-Mousiqee” at District Police Lines on the eve of Police Raising Day celebrations under Civic Action Programme, in which various artists displayed their talent in Singing, Sufiana Kalam and Gazals. On this occasion, Dy. Inspector General of Police Rajouri-Poonch Range . A.K. Atri was the chief guest. The programme was attended by a large number of prominent citizens besides other senior Civil/Police officers. The artists who performed in the programme included Sh. Sanjay Pashi, Vijay Anand & Party of Jammu, Mehran Shah, Sahil Mehra, Ashfaq Mir & party of Rajouri, who mesmerized the audience with their singing talent. Pervez Malik conducted the programme. The DIG of Police, speaking on the occasion said that J&K Police is organizing these programmes to nourish local talent in cultural and sports activities and emphasized greater co-operation with public. Public congratulated the J&K Police on Raising Day and appreciated the role of District Police for organizing such events as there is no other source of entertainment in this border town. Speaking on the occasion Mubassir Latifi, SP Rajouri highlighted the significance of celebrating Police Raising Day and also highlighted the objectives for organizing such programmes. He also thanked participants as well as audience for attending the programme in large number and assured that in future also District Police would organize more sports and other cultural activities for harnessing the talent of youth and providing an appropriate platform to them for exhibiting their skills and talents.



‘Run for Fun’ marathon organized in Poonch

Jammu, June 15: As part of weeklong celebrations on the occasion of Raising Day of J&K Police, District Police Poonch organized a ‘Run for Fun’ marathon in Poonch town. The run was divided into two categories of senior and junior. A large number of participants ( 300-350) including people from all walks of life took part in the rally and best performers in each category were provided with trophies and cash reward.
The rally was flagged off by Shamsheer Hussain SP Poonch from Eidgah Chowk Poonch to Army Auditorium and culminated back at Fawara Garden Poonch. The winners in junior category included Iftiqar Ahmed, Manpreet Singh and Rakshit Sharma and in senior male category were Toufiq Ahmed, Mohd Wasim and Inderpal Singh who bagged 1st, 2nd& 3rd positions.
SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain while speaking on the occasion exhorted upon the participants especially the youth to contribute positively to the society in eradication of various social evils like consumption of narcotic drugs, alcohol, casteism, untouchability etc. He further asked them to be aware of the negative impacts of information technology also and use it selectively for education and career planning. He also dwelt in detail on the importance of being involved in various sports activities and physical exercises for sound mind and fit body; the very purpose of organizing this event is to maintain communal harmony, integration and sense of belongingness among the different sects of the society.
Furthermore ,District Police Poonch along with MVD also organized traffic awareness camp at Bus Stand Poonch on 13-06-2014 which was attended by large number of commuters /drivers and general public.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include Amit Gupta-ASP Poonch, Sh. Khalid Amin-DySP DAR, Deepak Digra-DySP Hqrs Poonch, Prof. Musaraf Hussain Shah, Prof. Shamim Ahmed Bandey, Khursheed Rather, S. Narinder Talwar and large number of gathering also witnessed the programme.

Harikesh of Haryana wins Aghar Jitto dangal

REASI, June 15: Wrestler Harikesh (Choota Khalli) of Rotak in Haryana lifted the 51st Annual Aghar Jitto Kesari dangal, organised by the Baba Jitto Development Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at Village Aghar Jitto in tehsil and district Reasi.
To claim the title, Harikesh defeated Vinod of Khanna in Punjab in the main bout. Winner Harikesh presented with a cash prize of Rs 9,000 along with traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta while runners-up, Vinod got Rs 6,000.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was chief guest. President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided. SP Katra Kulbir Singh and DySP Katra, Rumal Choudhary were guests of honour.
In total, 40 bouts decided in this day-long dangal. The second main bout went to Parveen of Delhi, who trounced Major of Ludhaina while third bout won by Ajay of Khanna beating Ranjeet of Ludhiana. In the fourth bout, Bagga of Mallerkotla defeated Ajay of Khanna and Parveen of Khanna clinched the fifth main bout outplaying Pappu of Mallerkotla.
Members and technical officials who helped in the smooth conduct of this dangal included Mohan Lal Baba Ji, Sarpanch Krishan Singh (Pappu), Headmaster Gopal Krishan, Romesh Kumar Sanmotra, Om Parkash Malkotia, Sunil Kholi, Jugal Kishore (Bunty), Krishan Chand Verma, Mangat Ram, Bansi Lal, Bodh Raj, Om Parkash, Bishan Dass, Romesh Kumar, Ram, Pt. Ramashwar, Mohinder Kumar, Narseh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Virender Kumar, Murli Dhar (Munna), Capt. (Retd.) Lehar Singh, Om Parkash Verma, Deepak Wazir and Numberdar Shanker Singh.

J&K bags runners up trophy in Thang-Tha

JAMMU, June 15: Jammu and Kashmir team returned home with runners-up trophy in the Thang-Tha Federation Cup held at Kopargaon in Maharashtra recently.
As claimed by a handout issued by the J&K Thang-Tha Association, the state team excelled with 14 gold, 20 silver and 18 bronze medals in different age and weight categories.
In all, 24 states took part in this three-day event held under the banner of Thang-Tha Federation of India.


District baseball tourney from June 17

JAMMU, June 15: The J&K Baseball Association shall be holding three-day Srinagar District Baseball Championship at Islamia College of Science and Commerce ground from June 17.
Around 30 teams representing different clubs and educational institutions shall be there to compete for the top honours, informed organising secetary, Dr Altaf Ur Rehman, Physical Director of Islamia College.

StateTaekwondo team excels

JAMMU, June 15: State Taekwondo team excelled in the 32nd Sub-Junior and 1st Cadet National Taekwondo Gyorugi and Poomsae Championship held at Kurukshetra in Haryana under the banner of Taekwondo Federation of India.
The state team clinched five medals, including two silver and three bronze.
Medal winners: Erin Nobin, silver in cadet 37 kg Gyorugi; Sushant Verma, bronze medal in sub junior under 23 kg Gyorugi; Shreya Gupta, bronze medal in sub junior Poomsae; Achutam Dev Singh, bronze medal in sub junior Poomsae; Erin Nobin, silver medal in cadet Poomsae.

Udhampur police orgainsies T-20 cricket tourney

udhampur, June 15: To mark raising day of J&K Police, Udhampur police today organized T-20 Tournament at Sports Stadium which is remained continue till 17th June 2014. The tournament was inaugurated by Mohd Suleman Choudhary, SSP Udhampur. The other officers present during the inaugural ceremony were Khaleel Ahmed Poswal ASP Udhampur, Dy. SP Hqrs. Udhampur Gourav Mahajan, Dy. SP DAR DPL Udhampur, Mohd Aslam, SHO P/S Udhampur Mahesh Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP said that such tournament is being organized to promote the essence of sportsmanship among the youth and to keep away from soul evils and channelize their positive energy. He further said that such drive by the police department aimed at to ensure betterment of the society at large.


Ritwan wins open chess tourney

JAMMU, June 15: Ritwan Sauntra clinched the State Open Chess Tournament title while reigning state champion, Sumit Grover had to content with second prize in decider after both tied at five points each.
Earlier, 47 players, including 12 FIDE rated, participated in this event organized by Ace Chess Academy under the aegis of All J&K Chess Association.
Cash prizes worth Rs 10,000 distributed among the winners of various age groups. In the valedictory function among others present were president of the Association, Atul Gupta and Director of the Academy, Vijay Choudhary

Abdul Gani Choudhary from Malerkotla (Punjab) declared Rustam-e-Chenab

Doda, June 15: Abdul Gani Choudhary from Malerkotla (Punjab) was declared Rustam-e-Chenab in a two days National Wrestling Championship organized by Chenab Sports Club Doda and jointly sponsored by District Police Doda and 10 Rashtriya Rifle (Rajput) which is concluded today .
Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, Dy. Inspector General of Police, DKR Range Hqrs Batote was the chief gust of closing day function.On this occasion Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, DIG DKR Range Hqrs Batote in presence of M. S. Chouhan, Superintendent of Police, Doda presented a cheque of Rs.25,000/- to the chairman Chenab Sports Club Doda under Civic Action Programme-2014. Large number of people witnessed the championship.




Rasool becomes first J&K player to play for India

Mirpur, June 15: Off-spinner Parveez Rasool on Sunday became the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India in a One-Day International when he took the field against Bangladesh in the series-opener here.
The 25-year-old, who hails from the town of Bij Behara in the southern Kashmir valley district of Anantnag, was first selected for the Indian team in the 2013 tour of Zimbabwe but could not make the playing XI on that trip.
He picked up two for 60 off 10 overs on his international debut.
Rasool finally managed to break into the team in the ongoing series from which India has rested some key players such as regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma.
He was also the first cricketer from the state to get an IPL contract when he signed up for the now defunct Pune Warriors. He turned up for Sunrisers Hyderabad the goneby IPL season.
Rasool was a outstanding performer for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season. He finished as the team`s its top scorer and highest wicket-taker.
Rasool scored 594 runs at 54 with two centuries, and claimed 33 wickets at 18.09 to finish as the third-highest wicket-taker among spinners in the tournament in the seven games he played for his state.
