Hopes for peaceful Amarnath Yatra ahead

SRINAGAR, June 15: Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley today said that security forces are quite capable and competent to thwart any challenge from its neighbours. He asked Pakistan to rein in the forces on the border and said that ceasefire violations cannot go simultaneously with dialogue process.
"India is quite capable to defend its borders and the jawans have been discharging their job diligently on the international border, Line of Actual Control and Line of Control. The security forces are in a position of domination on the border and I am quite satisfied that we can thwart any challenge as and when it comes up," said Jaitley while addressing a press conference here.
The defence minister wound up his two day visit during which he visited some of the forward posts near the Line of Control and interacted with the army officers. He also co-chaired the security review meeting along with chief minister, Omar Abdullah. He carried one to one talks with Omar and Governor Narendra Nath Vohra.
"It is quite obvious that dialogue and ceasefire violations cannot go side by side. As such it would be apt for Pakistan to stop the firing on the borders in case they want the dialogue to go. Our jawans are alert and they can give a befitting reply to the enemy as and when situation demands so," said the defence minister.
Jaitley said that certain forces are quite inimical to peace in India and they want to create disturbance in the country. He said the beauty of India as a country lies in its nature of being one state. He said that violent incidents have happened in the past adding that there would be no lowering of guard when it comes to giving a reply to the enemies.
"We have to watch out for the situation as and when it develops. Each and every incident has to be dealt with according to its merit. We cannot apply same parameters to different situations. But one thing is clear that there would be no compromise on the overall security and sovereignty of our country," said the defence minister.
Responding to questions about incursions from China in the past, Jaitley said that the soldier on the ground is the best person to take a decision. He said that there is no need to worry on this front as the forces are ready to accept any challenge and then come out with a solution to the challenges. He added that the situation cannot be taken for granted and that there is always an element of caution when it comes to dealing with immediate neighbours.
"It is a fact that ceasefire violations are going on but at the same time I am highly satisfied that our jawans outwit the militants infiltrating from across the border. I am quite optimistic about the overall security scenario in the state and I am leaving with a sense of satisfaction. We assess the situation from time to time and as on date I can say that we are in a position of dominance," said the defence minister.
Jaitley said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Narendra Modi has drawn up a plan for the permanent return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley. He said the subsequent steps would be taken in the near future and the process would be completed in due course of time.
"We are ready to hold dialogue with the people who are willing to work within the ambit of Indian constitution. The message is loud and clear and whosoever fits the bill can talk to us. No innocent would be booked and only those who are trouble mongers would be booked since they carry out offences," said the defence minister.
"All the central and state security agencies are competent enough to meet any challenge. During my interaction with commanders and jawans it was quite pleasing to note that their morale is very high. My sole purpose of this visit was to review the security scenario of Jammu & Kashmir. There was no political connotation attached to my visit," said the defence minister.
Jaitley who is also the finance minister said that Prime Minister wants to inculcate fiscal discipline in the country. He said the growth rate of the country is below 5 percent and that the new dispensation wants it to go higher. He added that at the same time it would be the Endeavour of the new central government to bring down the inflation.
"The state of Jammu & Kashmir has suffered immensely due to the insurgency and militancy. The state needs a special treatment and as such we would provide financial assistance as and when it is required. I will certainly look into the matters of financial indiscipline that are reported from the state of Jammu & Kashmir," said Jaitley.
