SRINAGAR, June 16: As the tourism season is at its peak in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the decision of the government to allow the renovation of the Srinagar airport at this crucial juncture is going to cost dearly to the people associated with the tourism industry.
The people fail to understand as to why the government behaves insensibly. People say that if the government can't do well, it shouldn't harm either. People fail to understand as to why the government considers the renovation of the Srinagar airport during the tourist season. It is the practice which has been going on in the past as well.
These unplanned acts of the government give painful moments to the people who eagerly wait for the tourist season to come. It is quite unfortunate to go for the renovation of the Srinagar airport when the tourists, domestic as well as foreign come to Jammu and Kashmir to enjoy the beauty of this Himalyan state.
"It is quite disgusting that the tourism industry of the Jammu and Kashmir suffers for one reason or the other. Be it the strike calls given by the separatists, restrictions and curfews enforced by the government or any other law and order related issues shatter the economy of the state," said Pervaiz Ahmad , a tourism player while talking to Early Times.
Pervaiz went on saying that one thing that fails to understand is why the government acts insensibly by allowing the repairments of the runways of the air ports when the great rush of the tourists is expected.
It is, as per Pervaiz, equal to set the crop on fire when it is ripe. It happened in the year of 2009 also when the authorities decided to for the renovation and repairment of the Srinagar airport, thus affecting the landing and take of the flights, which quite naturally affected the tourism related activities.
"As the tourists are visiting Jammu and Kashmir in great number these days, is it wise on part of the government to limit the flight time? It is equal to kick a hungry man in the abdomen. The people associated with the tourism industry eagerly wait for the tourism season to come so that they can earn their livelihood," said Ishfaq, another tourism player while talking to Early Times.
Ishfaq went to the extent saying that it is a particular lobby that is hell bent to destroy the economy of the Jammu and Kashmir state. As per Ishfaq, the move to allow the repairment of the run way of the Srinagar purport is as good as snatching bread from a hungry man.
People in general and the tourism players in particular want to put forth their suggestion that if the renovation and repairment of the of the run way is to be carried out mandatorily, it should be done during the night time as it will not pose inconvenience to any.
