Srinagar, June 16 : Finalizing the preparations for the forthcoming assembly polls in the state, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today evolved consensus on the mandates for more than 40 assembly constituencies of Kashmir region. Top sources have informed that Imran Ansari son of senior PDP leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, will contest from Srinagar's Zadibal constituency. Former trade union leader Khurshid Alam will be the PDP candidate from old city's Khaniyar constituency. Asiya Naqash will be contesting from Hazratbal on PDP ticket while Mohammad Ashraf Mir- who is also PDP district president Srinagar will contest from Sonawar. Pertinently, Wachi, Batmaloo and Baramulla the three assembly seats out of which two were represented by PDP in the legislative assembly have fallen vacant after Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussian Beig and Tariq Hamid Karra were election as Members of the Parliament in recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Sources also confirmed that the party has given mandate to almost all sitting MLAs of Kashmir valley- asking them to take maximum benefits from the 'anti-incumbency' wave that shook the very foundations of the coalition in the recently held LS polls. Pertinently, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Srinagar last evening under the chairmanship of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss the electoral strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Apart from the party president Mehbooba Mufti, those who participated include senior leader and MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Maulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Tariq Hameed Qarra MP, S Rangeel Singh, general secretaries, M Dilawar Mir and Yashpal Sharma, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Dr Sameer Kaul, Tarlok Singh Bajwa and Naeem Akhtar. Reports informed that the names of party candidates were discussed considering different parameters. |
