Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: Outburst of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah against BJP leaders during an official function has once against brought into limelight the 2009 Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir when some BJP MLAs had voted in favour of National Conference candidate.
Although Omar Abdullah had made this startling disclosure in emotion, his outburst has exposed that undeclared alliance between National Conference and BJP has been going since long.
While addressing an official function at Jammu this evening, Omar Abdullah minced no words in attacking BJP leadership of Jammu and Kashmir for selling Jammu's interests in lieu of their own personal interests.
What Omar Abdullah's stated against a BJP leader is an open secret but he has disclosed that BJP MLAs had crossed vote in favour of other party candidate in Rajya Sabha elections which were held in 2009.
Everybody in Jammu is talking about 2011 cross voting episode of 2011 Legislative Council elections but no one talked about cross voting in 2009 Rajya Sabha elections.
Although Omar Abdullah has not mentioned name of other party to whom BJP MLAs had cast their votes in Rajya Sabha elections, it is an open secret that BJP MLAs had voted in favour of Dr Farooq Abdullah, who was National Conference candidate at that time.
Issue of 2009 cross voting was earlier raised by some BJP leaders but later they were snubbed by the leadership reason well know to them. BJP leadership has never tried to single out those party MLAs who had voted in favour of National Conference.
Credible sources said that it was on the direction of the senior national leader that BJP MLAs had spared some votes for Dr Farooq Abdullah to ensure his victory in 2009 Rajya Sabha elections. That senior leader, according to sources, had directed local MLAs to spare some votes for "nationalist" Dr Farooq Abdullah because his victory was must for "national interests".
It is still a hundred dollar question if action was taken against MLAs for cross voting in 2011 Legislative Council elections why same yardstick was not adopted in 2009 cross voting episode. Why BJP has adopted double standard on same crime?
