R&B faces ire of Sumbal Sonawari locals for allegedly failing to 'maintain interior roads' | | | Syed TahirBukhari
BANDIPORA, June 17: Residents of SumbalSonawari areas are up in arms against the R&B Department for its "failure" to repair roads and construct bridges here in North Kashmir's Bandipora district Tuesday. According to local resident of SumbalFayaz Ahmad Bhat, "repairing of roads and construction of bridges approved by the government of J&K are either incomplete or has not taken up yet. Every year state government sanctions Crores of rupees for the repair of roads and buildings but on ground nothing concrete has been done till date". 'Roads and Buildings(R&B) department, is responsible for repair of roads and construction bridges. No road has been repaired during past six years." It seems that department had withdrawn Crores on the pretext of repairing roads Bhat said. R&B official on promised anonymity said "The R&B Department has become defunct. It has turned into the den of corruption even as an ordinary thing is being decided by a few blue eyed contractors," Most of the inner link roads like S.K Bala, S.K Payeen. Banayari is connecting SumbalHajin and Naidkhai with Bandipora town. The road connecting Bandipora with other adjoining areas is in a dilapidated condition for many years. Similarly the road connecting Shadipora, Shilwat, Turkpora with Banidpora town is in a bad shape. After repeated request the department has never paid to our heeds, locals complained. The construction work on Soudnara bridges in Bandipora is going at snail's pace due to mismanagement by the department. "The construction work on this bridge was started before 5 years, with a promise that it would be completed within a year. But more than four years have already passed, but work is still incomplete," locals said. Local residents of Sumbal told Early Times that, "the authorities have maintained complete silence over the delay in the construction of this bridge, the contractors, who had been assigned this job, had left the work midway. "The contractors who had withdrawn some money and left the work in mid way" locals alleged and said, "officers in R&B department are hand in glove with contractors". Locals appealed Minister for R&B department, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora and other concerned Chief Engineers to expedite the work on the ongoing projects. |
