Omar sounds incredible in a bid to re-establish NC's credibility | | | Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, July 2: In a bid to keep himself afloat after coming Assembly elections Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is trying hard to convince the people that National Conference is not the creation of 'agencies'. Omar seems to be looking for the reasons to stay relevant on the political front of state as the National Conference has lost the credibility given its drubbing in the recently held Parliamentary elections. In the National Conference rallies at Ramban held yesterday, Omar was seen trying to convince the people that National Conference is not the creation of the agencies. He also claimed that the people of the state are the source of power for the party. "What does Omar want to convey by saying that the people are the real source of power for the National Conference when the same was rejected by the people in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections," said Aarif Salam while sharing ideas with Early Times. Aarif was of the opinion that low morale of the National Conference and the apprehensions of the defeat of the party in the coming Assembly elections is pressing Omar to make such desperate statements as his last minute efforts. National Conference, as per the people, has got no right to claim that it is the largest and the most trust worthy party of the region because it hasn't been able to form the Government on its own and virtually it is on the crutches. Some people at Srinagar while sharing their ideas said, "In 1987 the party came to power through the rigged elections, 1996 election was again NC managed, the party lost the 2002 elections to People’s Democratic Party and since 2008 the party has been at the mercy of Congress". These people ask why Omar claims that the National Conference is true representative of the aspirations of the party when its own people are negating this. As per these people, losing all the three seats from the Valley in the Parliamentary elections is the clear rejection to his claims. "It is the harsh treatment meted out to people during the NC Governments which drew a strong resentment against the party. It is the infamous Assembly elections of 1987 which ensured the fall of party from the great heights," said Zahoor Ahmad from Shalteng. As per Zahoor the wrong policies of the National Conference plunged the Valley into the darkness and people have suffered immensely on all fronts on account of this. |
