| As Govt chalks out return plans; KPs remain apprehensive, uncertain | | | ET Report
JAMMU, July 2: Expressing apprehensions about the Union Government's return formula majority of Kashmiri Pandits leading an exiled life for the last 25 years in Jammu camps and outside the State are uncertain about the formula arguing that situation was not conducive for the same.
The exiled Pandits while commenting on Union Government's formula said that there is no shift in the ground situation what it was in 1990 and hence the return to Valley was fraught with serious consequences. ``There is no shift in ground situation than what was in 1989-90 and any move for our return will be fraught with serious consequences,'' said Pintoo Ji a camp dweller.
He said they had not come on our own in search of green pastures in 1989-90 but were forced to flee by Pak sponsored terrorism and separatists. ``We left our properties worth crores of rupees and the market value of that has increased 50 times since then. But we left to save our honour and future of our kids at that time'', he added.
Pakistan continues to meddle in Kashmir affairs and armed desperados continue to enter the State and under these circumstances the return will not be possible as threat of separatists and militants still looms large, he said, adding the statements given by Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Bar Association Kashmir chief bear a testimony to the fact.
By talking about the return the Government was trying to disturb us again knowing fully that the situation is not ripe for the same in Valley, said Ramesh Kumar a non camp migrant putting up in Muthi. ``No doubt Kashmir is ours and we have a right on Kashmir but what guarantee we have that after a decade or so we will not face the same situation which we faced in 1989-90'', he added.
``Instead of having an uncertain future after return we will like to pass the days in exile at least we lead an honourable life here''. The Government should know that our left over property has been grabbed by the anti social elements even the religious places have not been spared, he added.
He said what can one expect from State Government which has not shown any willingness to constitute a Board for the protection of Hindu religious places in Valley while such boards were constituted covering various Hindu shrines in Jammu despite opposition from Hindu organizations. When the Government is not interested to protect our interests in Kashmir what can we expect from others, he added. The Kashmiri Pandits seeing their future bleak in Valley said admitting that Government will provide quarters to us and settle us in townships but what will happen after our children grow up and they have to come out of township after the multiplication of families. Where will they get settled and what guarantee they have about their security if they come and settle outside such a secured place.
Financial assistance is no consideration to us for the return, said Veer Ji another camp inmate saying that we had left property worth crores. ``The land left by us values in crores at present so the Government can't lure us by paying Rs 20 or 25 lakh as they have to think first about our future prospects in Valley where the ground situation is against us'', he added. |
