Summer capital of state gets barricaded on eve of PM Modi's visit | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, July 2: With Prime Minister, Narendra Modi all set to visit the state of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday the authorities have put the summer capital of the state on a high alert with security being heightened across the Valley especially Srinagar. Barricades have been erected at most of the important roads and locations in the summer capital. Both Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are manning these roads and infact more deployment has been put in place to thwart any untoward incident. The authorities are taking no chance and they want to ensure that PM's visit to the state passes off peacefully. In the Srinagar city barricades have been erected in Lal Chowk, Maulana Azad Road, General Post Office crossing, Jehangir Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma, Bakshi Stadium, Rambagh, Hyderpora, Sanat Nagar, Natipora, Nowgam, Bemina, Batmaloo, Pantha Chowk, Munawarabad and many other places. These barricades are hindering the movement of smooth flow of traffic in the city more so during the peak hours. Police and CRPF personnel posted at the important points in the city could be seen stopping the vehicles and carrying out random checking. The drivers as well as inmates of the vehicles are being subjected to questioning and some of them are asked to prove their identity by producing the identity cards. All the inter-city and inter-district roads leading towards the summer capital of the state are being monitored and supervised by police and CRPF personnel. The Tata Sumos coming from different districts to Srinagar are being stopped at various points by the police and CRPF personnel. The passengers are being asked about their identity and no chance whatsoever is being taken by the men on the ground. The security bandobast is strict on the Airport road with the extra vigil being maintained by the police and CRPF personnel. All the vehicles coming to and fro Airport road are being thoroughly checked and frisked by police and security forces personnel. The number of police and CRPF personnel on the Airport road is more as compared to the normal days. Security has also been beefed on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway and the Baramulla town since the Prime Minister is going to visit the Uri in this frontier district in connection with the power project coming up there. Extra vigil is being maintained by the authorities across North Kashmir in order to thwart any likely militant attack coinciding with the visit of Prime Minister. During his visit the Prime Minister would inaugurate the railway track between Udhampur and Katra. This would pave the way for running of train services on this track thus bringing relief to the people. He would visit Uri in connection with the power project coming up there. It would be in place to mention here that militants carried out deadly attack on an Army convoy last year on June 25 on the eve of then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit to Kashmir. Ten Army personnel lost their lives in the incident while as the militants managed to flee from the site of attack. |
