Jammu, July 10: Jat Kalyan Sabha of J&K today held a protest demonstration at Bishnah highlighting long pending demands including grant of OBC Status to Jats and for settlement of Refugee issues of POJK 1947, 1965, and 1971.Protestors led by Ch Kamal Singh, President Jat Kalyan Sabha, who is spearheading the agitation said that the Jats of Jammu and Kashmir are struggling and agitating for the OBC status for the last more than 9 years Expressing concerns over no OBC status to Jats in the state, Ch Kamal Singh while speaking on the occasion said that it is not out of place to mention here that Jats of other states have already been granted OBC status and are enjoying all benefits of the status, but sadly enough the same has been denied to Jats of Jammu and Kashmir. Ch. Kamal said inspite of the fact that 70% of the community is residing in Chhamb area and Deva Batala were made to leave their home and other belongings in 1947, 1965, 1971 Indo-Pak wars and after migration they have been settled all along Indo-Pak border from Doulian to Pargwal (Akhnoor) and Actual Line of Control (ALC) up to Mendhar, Poonch and even in Uri and Baramullah and are left in lurch. The education of Jat community children have suffered extremely due to migration as also their habitations on extreme borders. He said that they could not progress like other communities and have gone extremely backward so they fully deserved the OBC status which is also their fundamental right. Kamal said that they are dependent on manual labour and labour in commercial mandies for survival.Singh said that some senior leaders in the coalition alliance in the state are announcing publicly for the support of grant of OBC status to Jats of J&K but at this juncture; they should extend/grant OBC status to Jats as they are part of ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his coalition government to come out of deep slumber and see the writing on the wall and evolve fair criteria for drafting the package of each category of refugees keeping in view their material and physical loss. Speakers also impressed upon the coalition government in the state to grant the community OBC status, otherwise face the consequences in the coming Assembly election our slogan shall be Aarakshan do vote lo - refugee masla hal karo, vote lo".
