Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 11: The National Conference (NC) and Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Conference(JKPC) are on war path with former opposing the later forcing the CAPD ration dealer in Butwani area of Ganderbal district not to charge extra money on ration supplied under APL category to consumers.
According to sources the two parties are on a war path with local NC leader asking the ration dealer not to act on local PC leaders directive and charge Rs 60 extra from consumers for per quintal of ration being supplied under APL category. Sources said that PC activists led by its senior leader Mir Ghulam Rasool protested against the CAPD Department for charging Rs 60 extra from the consumers for per quintal of rice.
As per CAPD rate the ration per quintal is to be sold for Rs 1000 but the depot holder was charging Rs 60 extra from the consumers. This generated a lot of public resentment in the area and people took tostreets. Sources said that the PC led the agitation in the area and also took the issue with senior leaders of CAPD who issued instructions to the Depot holder not to charge even a single pie extra from consumers and sold the ration on the rate fixed by the Department. However some local NC leaders instigated the CAPD depot holder asking him to charge Rs 60 extra from consumers otherwise the ration supply will be stopped. This again led to a protest by the local residents who led by PC leaders took up the issue with CAPD officers again.
They issued directives to depot holder that he will be taken to task and disciplinary action will be taken against him in case he failed to comply the orders. The Department also referred the matter to police and sought action against the local NC leaders instigating the Depot holder to charge extra money from the consumers. Sources said the matter has also been brought in the notice of CAPD Minister, Ch Mohammed Ramzan who also warned the officials for charging extra money from consumers.
It may be recalled that black marketing in supply of CAPD ration has already surfaced in Ganderbal district and one store keeper has already been put under suspension. The opposition parties have taken up the issue with the Government and demanded a crime branch investigation into the matter and action against the guilty officers and politicians patronizing them. Meanwhile PC has warned to launch agitation in case the action will not be taken against the local NC leader responsible for instigating the CAPD depot holder for charging extra money from consumers and also against the depot holder who has a nexus with some NC leaders in the area.
