Kupwara, July 12: Most of the roads of the district have potholes and lie in shambles with the vehicular movement at snail's pace, the residents are up in arms against Roads and Buildings department as well as Beacon authorities here in Kashmir's Kupwara district. According to the local resident of Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmad said that, "Roads and Building(R&B) Department is receiving crores of funds every year for the maintenance purpose, but the department has deplorably failed to maintain the poor conditions of roads in Kupwara district. The road stretch which connects more than 10 villages including Bungam, Bhatpara, Guchipora, Mirwayan, Balhama, Baramdari, Chart, and from other side, Anderhama, Drugmulla, Fakirpora and Chayil is in dilapidated condition. "The department seems to be in deep slumber, poor utilization of funds since past 4 years and the money provided by Government of India (GOI) under various schemes has been several times lapsed due to poor utilization," he said. Another local resident resented despite tall claims the department of R&B is not able to use funds properly due to reasons known to concerned authorities. "The department of Roads and Buildings (R&B) has failed to provide concrete and proper roads and their maintenance in frontier district of Kupwara, local alleged. "The road track is in bad shape and it takes hours to cross it which otherwise could be covered in 20 minutes from the district head quarter Kupwara," he said. Agitated locals also alleged that Beacon authorities are least bothered about these roads in shabby condition with potholes in the middle and dust is proving main hazards to the life and the property of the residents. Every day one or other vehicle hits these potholes resulting in damage to them." "Accusing local Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA) Mir Saifullha at the time of election the politicians do anything to fill their vote bank, for vote they don't have shame how can they come and ask votes from us when they never pay attention to our problems. We don't have proper road facility," the locals complained. |
