LA elections take toll of Omar's nerves | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, July 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's assertions that 'It is my government and will empty state coffers for the people of the state' has taken everybody by surprise. It appears that the forth coming Assembly elections have gone to his head. Omar Abdullah looks to be in a mood to score maximum in the power play conditions but he must remember that weak teams lose most of the wickets in the power play. It is a known fact that when one goes for desperate attempts there are chances of injuries as well. People of the state generally believe that the National Conference finds itself in a situation of isolation and that is why it is in the romantic mood these days to try and convince the people before the coming Assembly elections as its last minute efforts. By resorting to such tactics National Conference has accepted the defeat even before the commencement of the assembly elections. A person with the simplest of the knowledge can judge that as to why the National Conference is taking such steps at the death time. "The government failed to resolve the job crisis in the last five and half years. Some candidates had applied for the posts, as advertised by the recruiting agencies, years before but they haven't received call letters as yet," said some youth at Srinagar who were talked to by the Early Times. These youth were of the opinion that what impression does the Omar Abdullah led government want to give. As per these youth the attempts of Omar Abdullah at this moment can be termed as nothing more than the poll planks to swim ashore safely, the chances of which seem very bleak. What is the Chief Minister of the state going to derive from the enhancement in the retirement age or by giving five years service benefits to the teachers under Rehbar e Taleem scheme when the model code of conduct will be in force only sometime from now, ask people? People argue that the employees of the state, confirm or consolidated have been struggling over the years to get their grievances addressed. As per people of the state the government is trying its level best to end their term of governance on a high note so that people keep this all in mind. "The confidence level of the National Conference is so much low that the party has failed to come up even with the list of the candidates for the Assembly elections depicting that the party is heading towards a breakdown. How can it solve the problems of the people," said some people at Budgam. |
