VHP opposes observance of July 13 as Martyrs Day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , July 12 : VHP today strongly opposed observing of July 13 as Martyrs Day by State Govt. Speaking to media Dr. Ramakant Dubey, Patron VHP stated that in the year 1939 Abdul Kadir, cook of a British intelligence officer came to the state & started anti- Indian movement along with local Muslims. He gave an anti national speech in the shrine of Shah-e-Hamadan, Srinagar on 21-06-1939 in a planned manner to instigate Muslim community. He said the Government immediately arrested Abdul Kadir & he was put into the jail. The case of Abdul Kadir was under trial and a procession of 4000-5000 attacked the jail in order to get free Abdul Kadir. The police in order to control the position/ maintain the law and order opened fire in self defence on the processionists after giving warning to mob. He said in the shootout about 21 persons died & the processionists took to the dead bodies in a protest to main Bazaar of the valley. They looted the shops & properties belonging to Hindus & three Hindus were also killed by the holligans. The Muslim who have lost their lives later on were treated as Martyrs and 13 July was observed as "Martyrs Day" since then, he added. Dr. Ramakant Dubey asked the Government why this day is celebrated as "Martyrs Day" at state level when the deceased have not done anything for which they will be treated as martyrs. He condemned & asked the Government not to observe this day as a "Martyrs Day" as it gives a wrong message to the other community who have already left their houses more than 25 years and the Government is trying to settle them again in the valley. He further stated that those peoples who were forced out from the Kashmir Valley cannot trust the Government/political and non political organisations as all are celebrating this day. Dr. Dubey while strongly condemned the celebration of "Martyrs day" on 13 July & asked the Government to stop this practice of celebration immediately. He also sought immediate intervention of Governor N.N.Vohra in this regards.
