Cong accuses NC of burning party flags

Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 13: The state Congress here today launched a scathing attack on its ally National Conference accusing it of burning its flags at Martyrs' graveyard in old city ahead of the congregational prayers.
The senior PCC vice- president Muzaffar Parray stated that it was ironical to see some Congress flags torn up in pieces and some burned to ashes by none other than National Conference. "When we reached the martyrs graveyard to pay tributes to the July 13 martyrs, we were disheartened to see our flags burned by the national conference," he allegedly said, adding that the situation could have turned ugly but the leaders prevailed over the angry Congress supporters.
The Congress vice-president maintained that they sought time for offering congregational prayers to the July 13 martyrs and the district administration gave them the time slot of 8.35 am. "We reached the old city on time but what we witnessed at the graveyard was indeed disheartening. Our activists revealed that during the early morning hours, NC asked their men for carrying out such action. Even we have reports that administration was in hand in glove with the national conference in carrying out such action," he added.
Castigating the NC policies, Parray stated that NC was involved in 'flag politics' and had been hell bent upon exploiting peoples' emotions at large in the valley. "Such actions cannot be tolerated," he asserted.
He maintained that the Congress later on held a detailed meet over the issue wherein it was unanimously decided that the high command shall be informed about such NC actions and asked for how long the Congress has to bear the 'burden of the sin'.
He alleged that several Congress workers were stopped by the administration to reach the venue. Everything was being done by the government to cause damage to Congress party in the state, he claimed.
The district authorities, however, said that no such incident had taken place in the area.
