Congress unhappy with Taj over NHPC statement | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 13: The Congress leadership has taken strong exception to the statement of Cabinet Minister Taj Mohiud-din against the Central Government undertaking NHPC. The party is contemplating to take action against the Minister, which in the past has been taking divergent views from the party's stand. Taj in statement, issued around the visit of Narendra Modi, said that NHPC doesn't have the right to operate hydel project at Uri and had even gone to the extent of the saying that NHPC is looting Uri. The project has been completed and executed by the NHPC with the substantial cost. The NHPC has been constructing similar projects in other parts of the country with an agreement with the state governments to provide them a percentage of the free power and also to make away substantial sum for the local area development. Source said Taj had deliberately made these statements to project NHPC as an Indian institution which is taking away the rights of the people of the Kashmir. His statement was in line with the consistent statements of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had also been making Kashmir as a special zone in India with special rights. Congress, which has ruled the country for the maximum years, had taken very serious view of the fact that his own Minister is taking a divergent view to the stand of the party, which had built many institutions, and also seeing toeing the line of the CM, with whom the party , according to the sources, is contemplating parting ways.' Taj had in the past also not allowed opening of power projects carried and executed by the NHPC in the Kashmir. "Taj is acting more loyal than the king to Omar Abdullah. The party knows what his interests are and how he is going against the party. The PDP had already announced strong candidate from the Uri and going by the statements of Taj we may even drop him," said a senior Congress leader. The Congress leadership had already received many complaints against the Taj for his alleged anti-party activities and his open confrontation with PHE minister Sham Lal Sharma, who is trying to save the interests of the party, are also in knowledge of the high command of the party. |
