New Delhi approves new infrastructure for Mansar Lake
7/22/2014 10:47:52 PM
Jammu, July 22: What can be more ridiculous on the part of Mansar Development Authority (MDA) that it got approved a proposal of creating a tourist infrastructure at Mansar Lake from the center government despite the fact that it had already same infrastructure which had not been properly maintained and utilized by it resulting funds are lying utilized. Sources told Early Times that Mansar Development Authority had sent a Detail Project Report (DPR) of a project for creating tourism infrastructure at Mansar in 2012 to Government of India and same was approved at a cost of Rs 4.56 crore and first installment of Rs 91 lakh was released along with the sanction order. They further informed that the components under the project were included construction of Tourist Reception Centre consisting of five rooms, two suites, play room, kitchen, lobby etc. at a cost of Rs 1.39 crore but same funds remained unutilized as no construction work was carried out thereafter. Interestingly, Mansar Development Authority had already refurbished two old buildings viz., Mansar Club and cafeteria building with facilities like bed rooms, recreation halls, cafeterias, kitchens etc., which were similar to one proposed in the DPR till 2011, they added. They said the proposal of new project was mooted despite the fact that the existing infrastructure was not fully utilized due to low arrival and stay of tourists at Mansar. There were already four huts having eight bed rooms and a tourist complex consisting of six bedrooms along with other facilities constructed by JKTDC at Mansar and the funds were lying unutilized with the Authority. It is very ironic that Mansar Lake and its adjoining area despite being attractive tourist destination yet failed to attract more tourists as compared to other tourist destination due official apathy at the helms as the area is still lagging far behind in terms of development and failed to attract more and more tourists, they added. Sources further informed authority is now contemplating to spend the funds released on renovation of dormitories at the Mansar Club.
