Avinash Azad JAMMU, July 23: Public Service Commission (PSC) has rejected the order of promotion of some "undeserving" doctors as issued by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of Health and Medical Education Department. However, setting yet another example of favouritism, the Government seems to be shielding these "unduely" promoted doctors as even after the lapse of more than seven weeks of the cancellation of the DPC order by PSC, it was yet to act on the development. Sources told Early Times that in brazen violation of the service rules, some blue- eyed doctors at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), Jammu, were holding the position of senior doctors notwithstanding the rejection of their promotions by PSC in beginning of June. "Promotion cases of these doctors were placed before the DPC on June 3, 2014 at Srinagar and subsequently approved but the PSC rejected the promotion cases while scrutinizing the cases. During scrutiny, it was found that the promoted doctors were not eligible for elevation," the sources added. In a humiliating situation in SSH Jammu, some senior doctors are reportedly forced to report before their juniors, putting them in a total awkward situation, sources said. They alleged that the DPC of Health and Medical Education Department, allegedly under political pressure of some Ministers, had promoted nearly 10 lecturers of Medical College as Assistant professors a few months back, ignoring their seniors. "Some of the doctors (Lecturers), holding close allegiance with Ministers were promoted in violation of norms and the list was approved by Medical Education Department, which was later sent to JKPSC for approval, but latter has reportedly rejected the names of 10 doctors, for promotion", sources said. They further said that the PSC has sent its recommendations regarding its objection in promotion of these lecturers as Assistant Professors. "After lapse of more than three weeks, Medical Education department is yet to issue the order", sources said, adding that the Government is not correcting its "wrong" order and has been sleeping over the PCS recommendations. They suggested that the Government should work as per the recommendations of PSC, and these doctors should be placed according to their stature and their seniority list ought to be maintained at all costs. They alleged that the top brass in Health and Medical Education Department with the connivance of the concerned Minister was hesitating to act on the PSC recommendations as regards the cancellation of promotion orders of doctors. |
