Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 23: After resigning from Congress, former Lok Sabha member Chowdhary Lal Singh has again opened channels with the party leaders. Interestingly, amid reports that he may join People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he has also opened channels with BJP also.
Credible sources said that after resigning from Congress and lambasting former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chowdhary Lal Singh rushed to Delhi on Tuesday. He was called at Delhi by a senior Congress leader, who is known to be detractor of Azad, to hold discussions with high-command. Chowdhary Lal Singh held discussions with that leader, who assured him that his grievances would be placed before Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Interestingly during his day long stay at Delhi, Chowdhary Lal Singh also opened his channels with BJP leaders. Avinash Rai Khanna, Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, who is Prabhari of J&K BJP, held discussions with Chowdhary Lal Singh, despite the fact that state unit is strongly opposing his entry. Khanna, who is trying to project him as king maker, assured Lal Singh that despite opposition by state unit he would be suitably adjusted.
Most important of all, Chowdhary Lal Singh has also assured PDP leadership that he would join the party on August 5. PDP leadership has delayed its list of Kathua district to field candidates of Lal Singh's choice.
As reported earlier Lal Singh was earlier most likely to join People’s Democratic Party (PDP) because on Sunday he has given hints about joining Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's party. Lal Singh had served as Health Minister when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was Chief Minister of the State.
Lal Singh had won 1996 Assembly election from Basholi as candidate of Congress (Tiwari). In 2002, he joined Congress and contested election of Congress ticket from same Assembly segment. He won the 2002 Assembly election and became Minister in the PDP-Congress coalition Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
