Pre-poll alliance with Congress in 2008 | Sheikh Nazir terms Omar dictator | | Neha MINCING NO WORDS JAMMU, July 24: Believe it or not, but it is a fact that Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, cousin of National Conference (NC) president, Farooq Abdullah, and who served the party as general secretary for decades, considers NC working president dictator. He termed Omar Abdullah dictator only the other day during an interview to a media person. During the interview, he said many things. He said he was not an Indian; he is only a Kashmiri. He sung the separatists' song and opposed the return of Kashmiri Hindus to the Valley. He attacked Pakistan, saying had Pakistan not invaded J&K in Oct 1947, Kashmir would have become an independent country decades ago. He condemned the Mughals, including Akbar. He spoke ill of India and he talked much about Sheikh Abdullah and praised him. He said the NC never strengthened India in Kashmir. On the contrary, he declared that the NC all along worked against the Indian interests in Kashmir. "No, it is a wrong notion. We don't strengthen India in Kashmir. We are in a political system. We are doing it only for the betterment of people. We, time and again, tried our best to resolve the political problem of Kashmir. We will continue our struggle until this problem is solved amicably. We are fighting for the people of Kashmir," he, in fact, said. Sheikh Nazir, who hates Indian passport, brazenly distorted history and said Maharaja Hari Singh didn't have the power to accede the state to India. He defended the 1974 Indira Gandhi-Sheikh Abdullah Accord and claimed that it was a step towards the final goal: separation. "The accord is all about restoring pre-1953 status of Kashmir," he said. He said many other things during his long interview. Nothing was surprising in what he said and claimed. And what he said was nothing but a blend of distortions, untruths and half-truths. However, what surprised all the more was what he said in response to the question on pre-poll alliance with the Congress. What was his response when asked "why didn't the NC go for a pre-poll alliance with Congress? He said: "The working president (in this case Omar Abdullah) takes decisions on alliance. He consults everyone across the board. If he decides himself without consultations, then it is dictatorship. In 2008, I was the general secretary of NC. They did not consult me before going for an alliance with Congress". Note the words "they (in this case Omar Abdullah) did not consult me before going for an alliance with Congress" and it would not be difficult to draw the right conclusion and the conclusion, of course, would be that he considers Omar Abdullah a dictator. |
