Professor from USA propagates "Green Chemistry" at LPU | | | Early Times Report
JALANDHAR, July 24: India is not only among the fastest growing economies but the second largest producer of pesticides, and one of the emerging markets for pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals also. These growing industries have often led to environmental problems. Keeping in view that the environmental education and practice keep pace with this growth, LPU department of Chemistry organized a three-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'A Better Living through Green Chemistry'. Professor of Chemistry at Illinois-Wesleyan University (IWU) in the USA, Dr Ram Mohan discussed various aspects of green chemistry during different sessions held at the university on all the days. He also visited different departmental laboratories of LPU and provided his valuable suggestions. Dr Mohan shared his own research work at IWU, and revealed his interest for collaborative research with organic chemists at LPU department of chemistry. LPU Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar welcomed Dr Ram Mohan for his valuable visit to LPU Department of Chemistry. Taking many solid examples of lab accidents and pollution from chemicals in Indian context, Dr Mohan elaborated about the need of Green Chemistry adoption, and the design and redesign of chemical syntheses to prevent pollution. |
