JK, AP integral parts of India: Jaitley informs Parliament | ‘China occupies 38,000, Pak 5,180 sq Kms of Kashmir’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 25: Ridiculing Chinese claims on Kashmir and other parts of the country, India today said that Kashmir is an integral part of India and asked Beijing to cease its activities in Pakistan administered Kashmir. According to media reports, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley in reply to a question informed Lok Sabha that Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are integral and inalienable parts of India and added that China claims some 90,000 sq km of Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh. Defence Minister said that Indian territory under the occupation of China in Kashmir is approximately 38,000 sq kilometres, besides Pakistan had illegally ceded to some 5,180 sq kilometres of Indian territory in its controlled of Kashmir to China. "The fact that Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are integral and inalienable parts of India has been clearly conveyed to the Chinese side on several occasions, including at the highest level," Defence Minister said He said that government is vigilant and continuously keeps an eye on Chinese presence in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) and has time and again asked government of China to cease such activities in the area. Defence Minister informed the house that issues pertaining to Chinese illegal movement in Indian parts are being discussed by the government in regular meetings with Chinese counterparts and besides such issues government always discuss bilateral, regional and global issues with China in meetings. He said that presence of Chinese troops has been witnessed very recently and as their numbers were estimated to be around 5,000 by the Army couple of years ago, However, they were mainly involved in construction activities there in such areas mainly. Defence Minister while answering another query on attacks by Sri Lankan Navy on Indian fishermen in coastal areas, Arun Jaitley said that continuous efforts by the government have led to the release of 536 of the 541 arrested by that country till July 18, 2014. He informed members of house that as per one agreement of 2008, the two governments have agreed that there would be no firing on Indian vessels and Indian fishermen would not go to the sensitive areas which are designated by the Sri Lankan government already. In reply to an another query, Arun Jaitley said that DRDO has proposed to set up missile ranges in ranges in Rutland Islands in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Nagayalanka in Krishna district of Seemandhra state. Defence Minister while giving out the reasons for delays in execution of road projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), said that delay in forest and environmental clearance, besides hard rock stretches and difficulty in availability of construction material are the main reasons behind it. |
