Anantnag, July 25: A policeman suffered bullet injury after being shot by some suspected militants in Bijbehara town of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district late evening on Friday triggering panic in the area. "Injured has been identified namely as Mohd Altaf Hussian (belt Number 995) who had joined the police in year 2011, sources said. According to eyewitnesses, the incident, suspected militants struck at around 6:00 pm and fired upon the police cop at Arwani Chowk in Bijbehara resulting into panic in area. "The injured cop was shifted to nearby Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara from where the inured was referred Srinagar for advanced treatment, they added. Sources added injured cop, a resident of Safa Kadal Srinagar was on deputation to annual Amaranth Yatra duty and was managing traffic on the busy Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH44) when militants opened fire upon him. Sources said, "Soon after the attacked government forces launched manhunt to nab the suspected militants". They added A senior police official confirmed the incident, however refused to share further details. |
