NHAI to collect tax after LA elections in state | | | Sandeep Bhat
Jammu, July 25 : NationalHhighway Authority of India (NHAI) which is responsible for connectivity of roads across the country is scheduled to collect road tax in the state of Jammu and Kashmir after the completion of assembly polls as per the sources. The highway authority is at present collecting road tax almost in all states except Jammu and Kashmir. The national highway from Lakhanpur up to Jammu is almost complete and Jammu- Udhampur highway is in its final stage and the work is going on. An official of the NHAI said that the Ban toll plaza near Nandini is almost ready to start collection and hopefully after the assembly elections which may take place around the end of the year, it will start operations. All the necessary work has been completed and till election the left out road which include bridges and tunnels up to Udhampur will be completed, he said. .The tax for car and jeep has been fixed at Rs 75, for trucks and buses it is over Rs 135 and above for one side as per sources. The status of toll plaza on Jammu Lakhanpur highway is not known yet though it was opened on trial basis last year but due to political interference and local opposition, this collection centre was closed down. But the ban toll plaza at Nandini has been completed and will be operational anytime after polls. |
