Paharis rue denial of ST status, threaten to launch protest | | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, July 27: Seeking ST status for the community, the Paharis have threatened to launch statewide protest if their demand was not fulfilled. J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) Provincial president MA Sagar and General Secretary Vijay Kochar have appealed to the people of Pahari community to get united for a joint fight for their cause under the umbrella of J&K Pahari Culture and Welfare Forum. These leaders have also appealed to the leaders of the community to leave their affiliations and join their struggle which can save the future of lakhs of Pahari students/unemployed youth who have become victims of reservations for other communities like Gujjars and Bakerwals who have been sharing the same culture, in habitations, customs etc.Chairman JKPPM Shahbaz Khan said that Pahari community educated youth despite their high percentages in qualifying examinations suffering a lot without any reservation for them and they have to compete in the open merits while the youth of other communities sharing the same habitations and with low merits getting preferences in every fields . "Any more discrimination with our youth, who already feel dejected and frustrated, may become prey to the anti-national and anti-social elements once again like Kashmiri youth, who joined the anti-national activities after being becoming victims of economic disparities and discrimination and state has been facing the trauma for the last more than 27 years, may play in the hands of separatist forces," said Shahbaz Khan. According to Pahari community leaders in 1989 the State government had recommended to the Union government to extend ST status for the 7 communities of the J&K and Pahari community was on the top of the list. |
