Pulwama, July 27 : A local youth hailing from Tral area of Pulwama district was picked up by a joint team of police and security forces after they received complaints that he was posing as a terrorist and extorting money from local people and panchayat members. According to a police statement, a toy pistol and a tear smoke grenade were recovered from the extortionist in Pulwama who was apprehended in a joint operation with Army and CRPF last evening. He was allegedly extorting money from Panchs, Sarpanchs and other civilians in Pulwama district for past several months. Last week, Pulwama police received information that a person posing as terrorist is threatening local Panchs, Sarpanchs and other civilians and is extorting money from them. Police started investigation in this regard and activated its sources in the area, the statement informed. "Last evening on a tip off, Police Pulwama along with 55 RR and 182 Bn and 183 Bn of CRPF arrested Aijaz Ahmad Shah alias Bilal alias Suhail alias Molvi resident of Fakeer Mohalla Tral at village Chakora. During his questioning, police recovered from him a toy pistol, a tear smoke grenade and cash worth Rs 50,000 along with a mobile phone used during the commission of offence. He confessed to have extorted money from some locals besides Panchs, Sarpanchs by visiting their houses during night," the statement added. |
