"Ab pachtaye hout kya, jab chidiya chug gayi khet" | Omar slept for 6 years, woke up very late | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, July 28: At the fag end of his innings, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is having a tight schedule ahead for the inaugural and foundation laying ceremonies in the state. The Government executing agencies particularly the J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) and J&K Housing Board are working on war-footing for the completion of developmental/infrastructural projects as the Chief Minister has already fixed the dates either for foundation laying or for inaugural ceremonies of various projects. Despite the state holidays for Eid, the officials of JKPCC and Housing Board could be seen camping overnight at the sites and monitoring the pace of work. The JK Housing Board officials were seen camping at Amar Singh College in Tulsibagh for three days last week as the Chief Minister was scheduled to formally lay the foundation stone of the under-construction modern Auditorium at the college. MD of the Housing Board and his team of engineers were on their toes for this project. Even the Engineers of the Board were reportedly camping in the college premises till late at night and the workers too were seen working overnight. The Housing Board officials had a sigh of relief after the foundation laying ceremony concluded gracefully. The presentation/briefing given by the engineers of the Board impressed the Chief Minister and Minister for Higher Education. Meanwhile, engineers of JKPCC also could be seen camping at Rambagh Rehabilitation Complex and Power Development Corporation Complex Exhibition Ground to monitor the pace of work on the twin projects as the Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the complexes on August 1. MD JKPCC along with the his team of engineers are camping at the sites to ensure that finishing touch is given to the complexes before the CM inaugurates them. Had the Chief Minister been so keen from the beginning of his term in timely completion of the developmental projects, the scenario would have been different. But as a saying goes, "ab pachtaye hout kya, jab chidiya chug gayi khet", Omar is banking his hopes on the premise that it is never too late to mend. While laying foundation stone of a modern Auditorium at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, the Chief Minister said that up to the mark infrastructure and well qualified faculties are imperative in imparting quality education to the students in a palatable and conducive atmosphere. He said attention is also being paid to construct lecture halls and auditoria in these institutions. The Chief Minister is right on this count. But even his supporters admit that he was in deep slumber for the last five and a half years and woke up very late. His detractors, meanwhile, say that the coalition Government in J&K wasted six years of the people of the state. Due to delay in completion, the initial cost of many projects multiplied, and the final costs are now very high. Meanwhile, the auditorium at AS College is likely to cost Rs. 12.28 crore and its completion is scheduled for August, 2015. The Auditorium will have the capacity of 500 seats besides an Academic section on the ground floor and backstage facilities at level 2nd and control room at level three. The ground floor area will be 2608 Sft, 1st floor will be constructed on an area of 10709 Sft and 2nd floor on an area of 6655 Sft. |
