Separatists blamed for inciting people to resrot to violence in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: Senior police functionaries in the state have blamed separatists for inciting people to stage protest rallies even during the time when the valley has been witnessing Eid festivities. Referring to the today's demonstrations in various parts of the Kashmir valley, senior police functionaries said had separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani not given the call for protest rallies after Eid prayers, there would have been total peace in Kashmir.Reports said that several parts of the valley today witnessed protests against the Israeli offensive in Gaza strip soon after the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Although peaceful protests were held at many places against the Israeli action, groups of youth indulged in stone-pelting at Hyderpora and Maulana Azad Road in the city soon after the Eid prayers in these areas concluded. Reports of similar incidents were reported from Sopore town in Baramulla district, Janglat Mandi area of Anantnag district and Shopian town, police said. Law enforcing agencies fired several rounds of tear smoke shells to chase away the protesters. No one was injured in the incidents. Police said that people had already staged demonstrations in protest against the Israeli action in Gaza strip in which more than 700 people have been killed. And when the state cabinet in its recent meeting condemned the Isreli action, there was no justification for holding these protest rallies and that too during the Eid celebrations. Police said the Indian parliament too had opposed the Israeli action in the Gaza strip. Police officials blamed separatists for trying to register their presence and relevance by inciting people to resort to violence. They said that in case there were casualities or people received injures in police action the state government would be blamed. Senior government functionaries have appealed to people to stay calm as UN intervention my restore peace in the Gaza strip. |
