Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety across Jammu region

JAMMU, July 29: Eid-ul- Fitr marking the culmination of holy month of Ramzan was celebrated with traditional religious fervour and gaiety across the Jammu region today with thousands of Muslims gathering in various mosques of the city to offer Eid Namaz (special prayers) in the morning.
The biggest congregation was held at Jama Masjid, Khatin Ka Talab where a large number of Muslims offered Eid Namaz and held special prayers for peace and prosperity of the State..
However due to heavy downpour this time Eid Namaz could not be performed at Eid Gah near Residency road where the biggest congregation was held as usual on Eid festival.
The Muslims were greeted by the civil administration as well as the members from other communities on the occasion. The people attired in white dress hugged each other, exchanged pleasantries and Eid greetings.
The members from Hindu and Sikh communities were seen greeting their Muslim brethren on the occasion.
Talking to media persons after offering Eid prayers, Abdul Gani Malik said that despite the efforts of Auqaf and district administration Eid prayers could not be offered at Eid Gah due to heavy rainfall and the administration was left with no alternative but to make arrangements in Jama Masjid.
Special Eid Namaz was also offered at Ustad Mohalla Mosque, Mosque at Bawe Wali Gali, Bhatindi and other places. Special prayers were also held on the occasion for peace, prosperity and brotherhood.
On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports Raman Bhalla visited Malik Market, Bathindi, Karayani Talab and Digiana Eidgahs and exchanged Eid greetings with Muslim brethren on Eid-ul-Fitr.
On the occasion, political leaders of various parties, prominent citizens, officers of various departments were also present and greeted the people on Eid-ul-Fitr.
Interacting with the Muslim brethren, the minister Mr Bhalla said that this joyous occasion would be a harbinger of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity, which are the hallmark of the State's glorious pluralistic behaviour. He appealed the people to help the Government in restoring peace and normalcy in the State. Bhalla stated Eid is an occasion to rededicate ourselves to the teachings of Islam and preaching's of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). "Let us all pledge today to work unitedly for the peace, prosperity and well being of the State and its people", said Bhalla.
The Minister said that the day symbolizes love, compassion and kindness. He asserted that Eid-ul-Fitr reminds us of our responsibility towards poor and needy and inculcates the spirit of sharing happiness and joy with everyone. He maintained that Islam teaches peace, brotherhood, amity and love besides tolerance and patience.
The Minister said that spirit behind the observance of Eid-ul-Fitr is to express our thanks to Almighty for giving us the courage to observe fast in the month of Ramdhan and rededicate ourselves to the path of truthfulness, sincerity, self-control, patience and human dignity.
On this occasion, Bhalla also prayed for the progress and well-being of the people of the State.
Over 400 Muslims belonging to Shia community offered Eid prayers at Zanibia Hall Karbalah. On the occasion of Eid today the jawans of Indian Army and Pakistani Army exchanged sweets at Zero line on Chaka Da Bagh in Poonch district.
The administration had made elaborate arrangements on the occasion. The officers of the police and civil administration were also present at the Central Mosque to see the arrangements at the time of Eid Namaz. Eid Namaz was also offered in other mosques of the city on the occasion.
Eid was also celebrated at Kathua, Bani, Basholi and Billawar, Udhampur, Ramban, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar and Bhadarwah with traditional religious fervour and gaiety with large number of Muslims gathering at local mosques to offer the Eid Namaz.
Thousands of people gathered at Eidgah Rajouri to offer Eid Namaz and participated in special prayers held for peace and prosperity of the State. Eid was also celebrated with traditional religious fervour and gaiety at Dharhal, Manjakote, Budhal, Mendhar, Poonch and Harni.
At Mendhar the Namaz (prayers) were offered at Jama Masjid by 20,000 devotees where 10,000 Muslims gathered a Harni to take part in special Eid prayers.
