Brett Lee unaware bats for India | | | Agencies
Sydney, July 29: Brett Lee’s manager says the cricketer was unaware bats he signed for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison would be given to Indian officials during asylum-seeker negotiations. Lee and former Australian teammate Glenn McGrath faced a social-media backlash over the bats, which were given by Mr Morrison to two Indian cabinet ministers during the talks. The Daily Telegraph on Saturday reported the two were happy to sign the bats after being told what they were for, but Lee’s manager, Neil Maxwell, yesterday denied he knew they were intended for the ministers. Lee posted on Twitter: “Just for the record, I sign thousands of things every year. 99.9% of them are used for charitable purposes. I am a strong supporter of human rights and for me to be positioned as otherwise because I signed a cricket bat is wrong.” McGrath also defended himself on Twitter. |
