Three-day bandh called off in Basohli | | | Jammu, July 30: Three-day Basohli bandh to protest against the sacrilegious act in the neighbouring Boondh town, about 210 km from Jammu, was called off on Wednesday evening after a meeting was held with the district administration reassuring the protestors of arresting the accused at the earliest. Kathua Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal, who chaired the meeting attended by SSP, local MLA and the protestors, said the bandh was called off and shops were opened up on the assurance of the administration. The Basohli town, about 200 km from the Jammu city, has been observing bandh since the sacrilegious incident at Boondh on Monday, where communal clashes took place. The protestors pelted stones and clashed with the police. The district administration has send requisition to the army to be available for exigency. Seven shops were burnt and there were communal clashes in the Bhoondh town after the incident. A shop was also burnt on late Tuesday night in the adjoining Nagrota town. It belonged to the Muslim family, which further escalated the tension. However, the official sources said the shop caught fire due to a short circuit. Meanwhile, the schools remained closed in the Basholi town, whereas the situation was reported normal in the Bhoondh area. |
