Alarm bells ring as Lal Singh knocks at BJP's door
Sapolia flexes muscles as Kathua refuses to relent

Jammu, July 30: Unnerved by the speculations that Choudhary Lal Singh, who quit Congress recently, may join the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the next few days, the sitting BJP MLA from Basohli today stoutly said come what may he will contest the forthcoming Assembly polls.
Speaking to Early Times, MLA Basohli Jagdish Sapolia though did not say anything on Lal Singh's proposed entry into BJP, he vehemently said that he will throw the gauntlet for the next Assembly election from the constituency he represents presently.
"Whatever happens… I am in the race and will definitely fight the upcoming Assembly polls from Basohli…I am hundred percent sure that party will give mandate to me keeping in view my dedication to work for the welfare of the people…. Being a loyal soldier of the party, I am confident that I will be able to get the party ticket," said Sapolia.
With Lal Singh all set to embrace saffron party as the developments of last few days suggest so, the MLA Sapolia, who had contested Assembly elections against Singh on two occasions in 1996 and 2002 though both the opponents represented different political parties.
While in 1996, Sapolia was a Congress candidate his arch rival Lal Singh fought on Congress (Tiwari) ticket and won the contest by over 4000 votes.
However, in 2002, both of them changed their parties and contested the polls from new political platforms.
Sapolia was now a BJP nominee and Lal Singh after the merger of Congress (Tiwari) into Congress became its candidate and again romped home by defeating Sapolia with a margin of over 3500 votes.
Sapolia, at last won from Basohli in 2008 as BJP nominee after a gap of almost 20 years as he represented the same seat as a Congress candidate in 1987.
But this time around, the veteran leader of Basohli is seemingly on a sticky wicket as far as getting the BJP mandate from Basohli since Lal Singh's entry means the rebel from Congress has to be suitably adjusted in saffron party.
Ever since the rumour mills are doing the rounds that Lal Sigh's entry into BJP is almost certain, a sense of uneasiness has not only gripped Sapolia but several leaders in State BJP in general and District Kathua unit in particular are at discomfort and are strongly opposing the entry of the two time-MP in the party.
Reliable sources in the BJP informed Early Times that the high command's eagerness to admit Lal Singh in the party is giving anxious moments to the workers and leaders of party's District Kathua, who are not willing to work in association with a person whom they were opposing till now.
"BJP leadership's decision to welcome Lal Singh into party fold has definitely left many leaders and grass root level workers high and dry since they are not ready to accept former MP as their colleague… Kathua district leadership is unable to tolerate the fact that they have to work in close coordination with a politician who was in the rival party a few days back," said sources.
"There are several leaders in the BJP especially from Kathua who are feeling uncomfortable and insecure with the proposed entry of Lal Singh as his entry may mar their future stakes in the party particularly in the upcoming state Assembly elections," they added.
